All hail the Pigeon. Great Great Great knock !!!!! I am just so happy to see him score his first 50 in test cricket. Hats Off to him. Clark must be pretty ****ed @ pigeon for stealing the day from him. It was supposed to be Clark's Day.

How could Fleming allow This ?? :-O

Yes it was enthralling watching Clarke, Gilchrist, Martyn, Gillespie and McGrath flay the "second best test side" all over the park. ;)

I notice everybody taking digs at Langer.

Just to let you know that not only is he one of the best openers to play cricket (England, India and Pakistan do not in their history have a opener as good as him) but he is also a very successful buisnessman and a very talented fighter. Its so funny to read how losers get so upset about his achievements.

Good on you Langer you are a legend and you have shown these twits how its done and how good you are (notice the selectors pick him to play for Australia and not you dimwits) and all you sad and sorry jealous dimwits can only do what you do best. Which is whinge and whine and sook.

Go LANGER you little ripper legend.

I think very highly of Langer, but Sunil Gavaskar was a better opener.

Just quickly, is there something going on in Brissy today? Crowds a bit poor for a Saturday...
Saturday is when most of the people who would go to the cricket are playing cricket.

Just to show I'm a hardened NZ "supporter", I was not even slightly surprised by McGrath's 50. Nor frustrated. Seems I've got used to such things.

Anyway, how many NZers or others feel that bowling too short is their problem? I've noticed it for a long time now...personally, I'd rather see them pitch everything up, even if they get driven for four repeatedly. Martin, especially, I don't know what he's pitching short for. Full is the natural length for him, or at least it seemed so vs. SA.

Next, what about tomorrow? Today's probably been pretty horrible for the NZ players and they must want to get it behind them, so I think the best thing Ponting could do is let MG and Gillespie carry on for a while tomorrow. If they can make anther 20-odd runs, NZ would be mentally destroyed for the whole day, I think.

Bleh that was a posting disaster, let's try again.

I like Langer, but Sunil Gavaskar, Hobbs and Sutcliffe are all better openers, from the countries you mentioned.

Langer - 81 tests, 137 innings, 5750 runs, average of 43.89, 19 centuries

Gavaskar - 125 tests, 214 innings, 10122 runs, average of 51.12, 34 centuries
Sutcliffe - 54 tests, 84 innings, 4555 runs, average of 60.73, 16 centuries
Hobbs - 61 tests, 102 innings, 5410 runs, average of 56.95, 15 centuries

It's also worth noting that Hobbs played most of his career prior to the 1930s, when pitches were generally more difficult for batting, and had the highest average of any player in the pre-Bradman era. Sutcliffe is also one of only three players other than Bradman to average over 60 over a career of over 30 innings.

I would actually be inclined to agree about Pakistan. The only Pakistani test opener who managed an average over 45 is Saeed Anwar, and in terms of test cricket I don't rate him as highly as Langer.
