Time will tell the fate of the match.

I heard that the day ended because of bad light. I couldn't watch that because it was news-about how many overs were left until stumps?

Bad light stopped play at 5.15pm (3 overs outstanding)

Just in case you weren't aware, you can find that info on the scorecard at cricinfo, it's at the bottom with all the match details.

Well, I managed to stay awake for the morning session, was well worth it. Really do have to question what Ponting was doing with such a defensive field and so willing to let Oram take the singles, and then twos. All credit to Jacob, mind.

I'm looking forward to another couple hours tonight, fingers crossed NZ can take a couple of early wickets (i.e. Gilchrist before lunch) which should provide a platform for a first innings lead. If that's the case, then maybe :)

I take it all back - big Jake does seem to like the ball coming onto the bat doesn't he.............

one of the better innings I have seen for some time & he showed some true qualities / maturity as a batsman and not just a bowling allrounder..........

his game improved once he gained Test selection, then again when he got close & then got his maiden test ton.......and now?????????????

well done Kyle Mills for showing some decent composure & ability at the crease, and well done Chris Martin for sticking around long enough for Oram to get over the line...........

the first session tomorrow could be very interesting................

from memory wasn't it that session that Martin did the damage last season v RSA - early morning swing etc???????????????

Definately - but both these batsman are right-handed. And only 1 left-hander in Gillcrest to come. NZ get the new ball in 20 overs too.

I think that's his point.

If Australia win they won't blame anyone, so Lehmann's spot will remain relatively safe.
Thanks LHC, that's exactly what I was trying to say.

Watching the game on TV, I was a little surprised at how condemning Ian Chappell was of the NZ gameplan (this idea of stretching the game out into the fifth day), 'cause I don't really think it's worked too badly up to this point. I realise there's a funny, stating the obvious aspect of "if we play really well and stretch Australia, we might actually be able to compete up to the end" about it, but I thought Chappelli was a little over-scathing about their slow tactics on the first day. Occupying the crease until lunch today was a reasonable enough objective, I'd have thought - and quite often they lost their wickets (and gave chances) when they deviated from that plan (MacMillan, I'm looking at you) more than when they stuck to it.

At this point, the Kiwis are well in the match - it's amazing, how we struggle to put them away, even with such a weakened lineup. If they manage to draw this series, I'll hang myself from the chandelier.
It seemed like th game plan for the Kiwi top order was for Sinclair, Richardson & Fleming to occupy the crease and hopefully lay a large platform and then for Styris and Astle to be more attacking (although Kaspa had other ideas).

Going off for light was an absolute joke. There were only 3 overs left in the day, fair enough there was a shadow accross the ground, but the sky was clear and the lights were on.

I have changed my opinion on Jacob Oram, it was a delight to see his innings first hand, he should buy Punter a drink at the end of the game, he gifted him a century, the field placings were a joke and Warne bowled for far too long.

Warne didn't bowl well at all, and was lucky to get 4 wickets, he should go for disent the way he was talking to Dar, pathetic.

I don't agree with people's opinion of Mills, after Vettori he was the best of the Kiwi bowlers.

Hopefully the rain can hold off, and New Zealand can restrict Australia to either lead or trail by few.

No, they've blamed it on Joe. :D
I thought so, so that wasn't dissent. If it was any other bowler then it might have been

EDIT: Read your previous posts.

Trust an Indian supported to pop up out of nowhere and have a go at Warne!

Anyway, I agree partly. Warne should have been fined.

And if you are from the sub contintent you can throw the ball, and blame it on racism when people point that out.

Nice come back from Dar. :-)

Once again Media makes a mountain out of nothing. The headlines says 'Warnie Clashes with Umpire' but when you read the story, you dont find anything in that report which can be considered as a 'Clash'. I dont think there is any need to bring any Bias issue here. Warnie was within his rights to question the Umpire's call.

Aleem Dar once again handles the situation pretty well. He is becoming my fav. umpire. :)
