Yeah good one. Glenn Maxwell is another guy who would do a great job but I think he's too valuable in the middle-order

I'd say replace Kane but the only viable alternative (Latham) isn't much better as his track record has shown, and there aren't many regulars who I'd have faith in - unless you suddenly made Conway captain. The other option is southee and knowing nzc that means he's become a ODI xi regular rather than have split captain's.
Yeah I dunno if that's an option on the table, if it's one that Kane would hate or if it would even give him any respite. Or if it would help this team in any way.

Incidentally, I was today years old when I learned Southee averages 60 against Australia, and Boult 17. Just as an aside.

If you look at the best ODI bowling averages vs Australia (minimum 25 wickets) Bond is 1st (15.79), Boult 2nd (17.18), and Ewen Chatfield 4th (20.56). Joel Garner, probably the ODI goat is 3rd on 19.92, while Hadlee is 7th (22.91) behind Ambrose and Holding and ahead of Saqlain Mustaq, Malinga, and Donald. Boult truly is a white ball gun.

Cause Aus usually field the back up team in JAMODIs v NZ

Southee averages 40 with the ball since the 2015 World Cup, which is essentially half his career in length. Given he’s 33 I don’t know why he hasn’t been given the Anderson, Broad treatment and just left for test cricket.

I can't remember his cracks in the JAMODIs buy he gets credit in my book for 2 fantastic world cups (including the game breaking 5 wicket spell against Aus at Eden Park). ODI great for mine, even though bowlers these days don't get the sheer volume of games the 00s guys did.

Second best odi quick of his era behind Starc.

What's long term benefit?
Seeing how Sears performs against a tougher opposition.

My guess is that if Ferguson wasn't in such dire form they might've risked 2 out and out quicks. Southee is kind of there as a holding seamer is my thinking.

No more big TV games for Sears until he's 27 or older, they say. Senior ND men weren't overly impressed by overhyped Rachin's batting in the nets last year, and they also heard Sears bowled one literal rocket of a delivery in the past and that's still kind of held against him.

I was joking lol.

I sort of agree in that I think their ideal structure permits only one rapid guy.

Problem is there is no reason for that structure to exist. Ferguson can open the bowling and the world will not end.
