Santner was player of the series in the West Indies. He is a quality white ball player.

Santner's fine. Didn't bowl that well today but still the leading white ball spinner. 10 overs of Neesham/Macewell is a problem though, I wouldn't have them both in the same XI (preferably Macewell out, but they're determined to pick him). Maybe worth trying Mitchell or Phillips in that role though I don't have high hopes. Need to find someone who can bowl to a similar standard as de Grandhomme and bat respectably.

Stoinis averages 45+ with the ball in ODI's at an econ of 6 while bowling about 5 overs a game. Fairly certain that Smith and/or marnus can contribute the same to the team in terms of bowling.

him along with Williamson are the only elite mentality cricketers in this side. I am amused that their fans want him out at nearly every juncture because he is too hip
I know we love a scape goat in New Zealand...but mention of Santner, that ain't it. He would've been much more effective if we'd bowled first, bowling under lights meant he was skiddier/didn't grip it as much. He performs a very vital role for us, as seen in the Windies (and he can bat). However, I couldn't get my head around why he bowled the 11th over a) when pace was doing the trick and it was nipping around b) to a LHer in Carey, who was able to deal with him very comfortably. But we've known for a long time now that Kane for all his glory, doesn't have a handle on captaining spinners.
I'd also like to point out that we've punched out 17 pages on a thread for a single ODI.
I reckon it's flat out irresponsible of people like Moeen Ali saying ODIs are boring, pandering to the dopamine fix short attention span generation, administrators ****-canning them for the easy candy floss sell of T20Is etc.
Yesterday I sat down for quite a few hours, not all of it, and watched people play proper cricket. Guys had to build an innings, there were ebbs and flows, tactics around who bowled when and for how long, when guys went hard with the bat and when they had to grind out singles/push the run rate at a certain level, and in the end there was a thrilling result that was never predictable. And actually one that people will remember in a few years' time. Contrast that to the boring, predictable, hit and giggle of a T20 and it's not even a contest.
I reckon it'll be to the significant detriment of the international game if they can't find a way to keep those sort of contests alive. We enter further into the commodified world of slap and clap over proper cricket at our peril, I reckon.
