*Official* New Zealand in Australia 2019/20

Perhaps he reviewed it hoping it was a no ball or the catch was not taken cleanly because he surely knew he hit it. It was a desperate review.

How is it possible to have so much bad luck.
That particular one was a *bit*unlucky, but Nicholls was looking a bat pad candidate against Head, let alone Lyon. Did say so in an earlier post.

But yes, the test has had an "anything that could go wrong.." feel to it. Need to bounce back well for Melbourne.

1 more Test and Raval should average less with the bat than Guptill which would prove me right on multiple levels. I'm all for it.

Jeez that was a good catch for the last pole.

On NZ’s openers, would stick with Raval tbh. It’s brutal here as a visiting opener. Unless you have genuine stand outs waiting, I think you need to stick with him and back him to do a job. Sounds trite, but what’s your other option? A random Rutherford or Marshall or something? Just stick with the kid ffs
Raval was finding ways to get out early in far more familiar conditions back in NZ. He's a better player than that but has lost form and confidence at a bad time.

The dilemma for the selectors is there's no FC cricket between now and the India series at home (I think), so no opportunity for Raval to go back and find form, nor for the selectors to really nail down a replacement.

Yeah, Raval hasn’t been making runs in club cricket, let alone FC cricket. Almost wonder whether his hand-eye might be detiorating, he looks a tail ender and has done all season.

I don’t know what the solution is, but I don’t think he’ll survive the series.

Hoping for some fun from CdG, otherwise it’s off to bed for me.

A big reason NZ were able to bounce back in the UAE and Sri Lanka was by replacing Sodhi with Sommerville after Abu Dhabi and Santner with CDG after Galle.

The selectors just do not learn. Part of me is glad Williamson got out to Lyon.

Another example of nz having absolutely no luck, no siree, not a scintilla all test. I blame the toss etc

Will concede this : in both the D/N tests NZ have played in Australia, the hosts were a strike bowler down fairly early in the piece and NZ failed to capitalize. Though in both cases the way the other Australian bowlers stepped up was/is quite something.

Having said that NZ have never really had a sniff here, but Adelaide 2015 was somewhat tossed away by some stupid Mccullum captaincy at a crucial stage.

Just arrived home so haven't seen coverage yet - but are you referring to Watling caught but no review? Any obvious reason why didn't Aussie refer - Cricinfo shows they have still have 2 reviews.

Australia didn't review the Watling catch because they realised the hot spot was in fact caused by a small firefly or stray glow-worm and would've been given not out.

Would have been nice if Aus declared 10 overs earlier. Then they would have had 5 overs tonight with the new ball (finish on 75 overs instead)
