if boult isn't better than this for the WACA then he should be temporarily dropped for Wheeler if Wheeler is fitter. At best Boult would be smashed and at worst get injured again and then we potentially play sri lanka at home without southee or boult.

how do they assess whether a bowler is going to bowl like this or not? surely he must bowl just as bad in the nets.

Neesham bowling docile stuff to say the least.

On a side note, even the dark clouds approaching the Gabba have a nice blue tinge to them. Beautiful.

Bracewell is our only bowler right now that seems capable of bowling two balls in the same spot.

Not that he managed that in the first innings.

It's incredible just how many 'improved' teams with a 'great or best chance to win in Australia' have come completely undone and dismantled in Australia once the first ball is bowled.

Pakistan 1999
South Africa 2005
India 2011
England 2013
New Zealand 2015

And this is not even a vintage Australian side.

This is the worst bowling I've seen in Test cricket of late. Got both the tests streaming right now and SA's bowling is just on another planet.

So, who turned the clock back and replaced the attack with the Ilford 2nd XI minus Hadlee?

Hard to strike a balance between getting players ready and ticking boxes, or telling them to be personally responsible and professional athletes.

Hesson doesn't strike me as someone who goes into things underprepared, but I think he'll have some serious re-evaluation to do here.
I dont know what to make of this. The bowling is almost not test match standard. They are unable to bowl 2 deliveries in the same spot, they are unable to beat the bat more than once. There is no strategy, no real plan. It's like they were told about this series on the 4th of November that they are playing on the 5th.

England bowled far far better than this in 2013 and still lost 0-5. At various moments they took charge of the game and Australia had to fight and struggle to claw their way back in.

This is just soul crushing. I cannot even imagine what New Zealand fans are feeling now. As a neutral I feel almost gutted with this display.

Actually didn't think he looked too bad on day 2. But y eah, it's all relative atm.

Think some of the loss in pace is down to the heat though surely they've been preparing for that. Its forecast to be a stinking 33 on day 1 of the next test in Perth so it's not going to get any easier.

Why isn't bond the bowling coach anymore? Management decision or did he no longer want the job? This bowling is dreadful

Got an IPL role. I think he has a young family too. Certainly noticeable the likes of Henry has regressed since Bond left. With Boult he has just come back from a stress fracture and perhaps hasn't got the overs under his belt or confidence back.
