Is it fashionable or something to hate Usman here?bloke averages in the mid 40's in fc cricket got introduced to test cricket early on and struggled but now seems to have improved his game and was absolutely faultless today. When someone has as much time to play the ball as he does, you can tell he is a good player.I mean these are exactly the sort of comments I was hearing when Smith was making his 92 in Mohali. Carry on if you like but you could be made to look like a total moron two years down the line.

Unfortunately the scorecard doesn't give a clue about how good Southee's first spell of the day was.

That's fair, might have been too harsh. But, that said, I don't agree they're nailed on for 500. Khawaja or Smith goes early tomorrow and you have a very inexperienced and recently collapsy line-up to follow. They're getting 400 and that's great but 500 is a long way off.
I'd be incredibly surprised if they don't make 550 at a canter. One of the set batsman is Steve Smith and he doesn't miss out. Then you've got a scratchy middle order no doubt, but it's a belter of a deck with guys who have been in the field in hot conditions for 120+ overs. And then you've got Johnson and Starc who can come in and wack it to completely demoralise you. 600 is only 210-8 away, and 210-8 represents a poor effort on this pitch for whom remains in the order. That's really only one good partnership away + sundries.

You'd have liked us to have got to stumps at 340 odd as opposed to 390 with more defensive fields, but in saying that Baz never had anyone to execute the plan. Far too much tripe from over 20 on.

You'd think that even this lot couldn't contrive to lose 8 wickets in a session, and even then that should get them to 500 or thereabouts.

Just watched the highlights. I'm by no means a Khawaja fan (serious doubts about mental attitude) but that six he hit on 43 was positively Marto-esque! If he keeps that up I'll welcome some style back into the Aussie batting line-up.

I made it as far as Warner's dismissal before I crashed. I'll be watching the highlights with interest. The score and the Uzi ton did surprise me a little when I saw them.

I don't think its time to call the series over yet. Regardless of how many Aus score NZ need to turn up with the bat. If they can ignore the scoreboard pressure and score heavily that would be a good statement for the series.

With that said a capitulation that allows a follow on option would be series over with Perth up next.

I just don't know if I'll be able to handle Nicholas and Brayshaw if that happens.
That's true, can't handle those two as it is. I've got a half work day today, so I'll get home just in time to share those moments with those two knobs.
Just listening to ABC radio so far, Katich is going ok, there.

600 is about as close to a lock as you can get surely? Maybe if it's overcast and the opening bowlers can get it hooping the Kiwahs can contain us, but that's a faint hope. If they let Smith get set again this morning you can forget it. The ****'s just in a ridiculous place where he is making runs for fun once he's in. Only the declaration will stop him.
