I cbf going and finding the posts I read while I was out, but a few people here have said they expect Bancroft to come in if Usman is out.

Do you expect Bancroft to go straight into three, or Burns to move there? I like Bancroft but I've never seen him as a three and I don't think they'll change the order if it's only going to be short-term.

I think they'll pick Darsh tbh.

Yeah agree with PEWS, unless Klinger does something mind-bogglingly amazing this week in the Shield.

No expert on hamstrings but the fact Usman was able to hobble at some pace after it clicked would bode well wouldn't it? Desperately unfair on him this twist of fate.

actually I'd settle for Klinger just for the surreality of that happening. Klinger of all people in the baggy green

it was annoying how many times he referred to warner as 'the little man' or some variation yesterday. pint-sized dynamo etc kinda unprofessional lol
Its straight from the Triple M radio AFL commentary style. Nicknames and banter all day. Agree it is ****house

I think you have to wait until the result before working out who to pick for Khawaja if he misses a Test. If the series is 2 nil up you'd expect a younger player as more of a chance. If its 1-1 or NZ manage to draw this Test, you'd expect it increases the chances of the more experienced bats. For the person who mentioned Maxwell, he isn't the worst option for a ground like Adelaide for a day night Test. Smith and Voges would have to move up a spot though.

Also, yes I do want Siddle in the team. I'm not saying Haze will be dropped, just if he does bowl say 12 wicket-less overs tomorrow he could have 0-90 and is definitely under pressure from the other quick who keeps making the squad. There are definitely times in all 3 innings this series that I've felt Australia could really do with a few overs from Siddle, Adelaide in a day night Test isn't especially ideal for the Victorian skipper.

I think he's just too limited. He's expanded his stroke range a lot since the end of the last Shield season but he seems a very 'pure opener' to me whose strengths are off-stump judgement and playing straight more than anything else. It'd really seem silly to me to have Burns open and Bancroft come in at three, but equally it'd seem silly to me to have Burns move down to three for a couple of Tests and then move back up to open when Khawaja was available again.

I think it'd make the most sense to just pick someone who was actually a middle order bat tbh.

looks pretty good against the spin doesn't he. Was very impressed the way he used his feet against Zampa in his last shield century and also made 150 odd in India against Ojha and co
said this before with Voges in his late 30's, ideally you'd want Bankers opening with Burns (who also looks pretty good against spin) sliding down to 5 but dont know how that could happen because if that to happen Burns would have to fail as an opener first but that could actually get him dropped from the side all together.

otherwise a top five of Waner,Bancroft,Khawaja,Smith,Burns looks good for an uninterrupted run

Yeah if a middle order batsman was retiring or being dropped I think bringing in Bancroft and moving Burns down the order would makes lots of sense, but with Khawaja just being injured I think it'd complicate things too much when he came back, particularly giving he's made runs.

This might just be because he's so new though.

When they picked the squad they seemed to say that they were giving him the season in shield cricket which seems very reasonable while they can get away with it.

Thanks for making at least something worthwhile in this series from a New Zealand point of view.

I love how MJ said he hadn't seen much of Williamson

Surely you pick a middle order bat and Smith goes back to 3?

If its for a only one test bring Bancroft or Travis Dean in to bat at 3 to give him a look at test cricket.
He is a possible longer term opener .
Once there is a vacancy in the middle order, ie after Voges, Burns could move down with Bancroft/Travis Dean opening.

I don't think Smith's 'let's keep some space between me and Warner' concern really applies at the moment with the form Warner's in.
