***Official*** New Zealand in Australia 2011

NZ have had two rain-affected draws at Bellerive and this. Ahh those were the days... nothing like Tony Blain stodging out a rearguard 20-40 to not-quite lend respectability to an awful score. Anyone who suggests NZ are lacking in 'talent' at the moment should check out that abomination of an XI.

I would like to see Boult in the side, not sure who he'd replace though. I'd rather see him bowl against Australia then say Zimbabwe, even if Hobart is a bit of a road.

One thing that has made me chuckle is how the Aussies were all doom and gloom after the 47 and then the attack they picked for the 2nd test in SA and a few weeks later they have 2 wins, have blooded some promising young bowlers and all of a sudden there is optimism again.

Funny how quickly things can change round in this game.

It is kinda funny on the batting front, but on the bowling attack most of the angst centered around the MJ/Siddle axis of poo. Now that's broken, we can breathe normally again without risk of stroke.

That we're playing NZ at home and not SA in SA helps.

Absolutely. But if either of them come in, Brownlie will have a right to be pretty peeved if he's the one who makes way.
Absolutely no chance that Brownlie will make way. If anyone gets dropped, it will be Williamson.

Blundstone Arena (lol) is a difficult pitch to describe. There has been some big scores racked up over the years in Test matches, but generally in Shield matches it offers quite a bit for the bowlers. I would expect the New Zealand team to be more used to conditions in Tassie compared with Brisbane. There wont be as much bounce for sure.

!

Important question.

We could see Pattinson and Cummins in the same attack soon.

Which one is Pat and which one is Patto?

Are Australians finally wising up to what we English have said for a long time, Hughes has a crap technique and isn't good enough at test level?
He made the runs in shield cricket, he deserved the opportunity at test level.... but he gets out the same way, or the opposition get him out the same way, obviously a technique problem.

I don't think he's finished reworking his technique tbh. When you change your trigger movements as much as he has it's obviously gonna feel different as to where off stump is (which is his major issue, aside from not playing straight enough at times)

Oh, and I'd say it wouldn't be the worst shout to put some money on Hughes scoring big at Hobart, especially after Ross Taylor's comments (or at least how they're being reported)

In reply to Spark - Or he could get out early edging again! I really want Khawaja to get that big score oh and Ponting.

I think Hughes will be retained, but only due to CA not rushing back Watson or Marsh. the big problem for Hughes is that if he gets dropped before the Indian series, NSW don't play another Shield match until Feb 6.

He could, but it wouldn't be a massive surprise either way.

Seems a bit of a North style rocks-and-diamonds merchant these days...

i'm not sure if that's better or worse than being a Ponting-and-Watson 'decent enough score but' merchant
