ND have taken 5 wickets by lunch. Plunket Shield could be wrapped up by lunchtime tomorrow?

Papps 100 before lunch. From scoring.blackcaps.co.nz: MHW Papps: 100 off 93 balls (19 x 4), 100 runs in 132 mins. Just the sort of start you want when you need an outright win on the highway also known as Colin Maiden Park....
Did I say highway? Meant to say minefield 8-)

From 2-153 at lunch, Cant lost 8-50 (Bates 6-55, Bhupinder Singh 6.4-4-6-3) and now Aucks 0-39 chasing first inning points to give ND the Plunket Shield.

Interesting to note that every team was put into bat today. Makes Papps and Pinga's efforts seem a bit more praise worthy.

Good to see Bracewell and Wheeler retain their spots.

Sherlock gets a game? Perhaps the coach realises its a dud match so plays him anyway.

Bates killing it with 6. He has done pretty well this year hasn't he?

Bates has done well, with 37 wickets at 25.5. Especially good since he's had to carry the Auckland attack in the absence of Mills, Tuffey and Shaw. WTF is Sherlock doing up at Auckland? He really gets around.

Glad to see de Boorder is playing well at the top for Auckland. Quality player. And Luke Woodcock needs just another 41 runs tomorrow morning to become the 6th player to score 1000+ runs in a FC season.

Nah, 4th best tbh.
:huh:

I could maybe understand the argument that ND is better than the one Wellington put out today, but who else?

With the exception of Ingram, CD's batting looks green and fragile.
Auckland have Hopkins, and Raval and Boorder have potential, but the rest look pretty average.
Canterbury are admittedly quite good with Papps, Fulton, Myburgh and Stewart, but it's highly debatable whether they're better than Wellington.
And Cumming is class for Otago, but with Broom gone, there's little else.

Maybe 3rd then, Canterbury's and Northern's is still better.

Nah

Parlane = Papps
Merchant < Fulton
Franklin > Myburgh
Ryder >>>>>> Stewart
Woodcock >>>> Brownlie

At the same time

Parlane = Parlane
Merchant <<<<<< Williamson
Franklin > Marshall (H)
Ryder >>>>>> Wilson
Woodcock > Marshall (J)

That's pretty impressive. He's been absolutely carted the only times I've seen him bowl on TV, but he's obviously much better than I've given him credit for. His stats indicate he's a bit better in the longer form of the game.

Out to the might of Todd Astle's leg spin.
Get him into the Test Side, I say. :p

ND 219/6 (Yovich 51*, McGlashan 50*) now have first innings lead over CD 216. Nice to think that ND took the title by themselves, without relying on Canty to fall over in the last game.

Fitting that Joey should be there for shield-winning first inning lead, it was his batting in the first two games on seamer-friendly wickets that set up wins to kick start ND's season.

**** me, Todd Astle has become a bowling juggernaut this season.

He's rocketing towards that second best spinner position :laugh:
