*Official* New Zealand domestic season 2022/23

:( No Ferguson

Should be because he's playing in the second test vs Sri Lanka, but instead they picked some guy that didn't even make this list.
Not to single out Keene and Ferns, but I'd take Ferguson over both without a second thought. Surely he's got a niggle otherwise it's insane to to select or permit our 2019 bowler of the world cup to play.

Milne set to play a Plunket game – his first in 4.5 years. My draft pick of him might pay off! Here're the squads:

Auckland: Ferguson seems to be rested; Delport in.

ND unchanged.

CD have cut Heaphy to include Young, which I guess was inevitable. Lennox out – ARs Clark and Small in. An interesting squad in that it seems they'll go with two more batting-oriented ARs, with only the 3 specialist bowlers.

Wellington look to have dropped Georgeson, and Younghusband from the squad. Smith and McPeake might be injured. Vishvaka replaces Georgeson, and 3 seamers have been brought in: Milne, Hartshorn, Leonard. Too many bowlers, especially seam; they don't seem particularly confident in Milne!

Canterbury: Foulkes, McClure, Bowes all still injured. M Boyle in, presumably to open. Their bowling now is < their batting with that sorta depth.

Otago have Rae in for Lockrose. Going with significantly less spin than their opponents Auckland.

That's actually a screenshot of text; they've got the best cricket coverage of all imo. Just can't be bothered putting FC sides into a social media graphic, because why

Do we read anything into Will Young being release to play plunket shield?

I mean it is objectively a good thing for him to play some actual cricket. But the round finishes the day before the next test starts.

So ....Nicholls inked in for next get even if he gets a diamond duck today, during which he manages to also run out two other of our batters (maybe also concussing one of them in a head on collision) before his own diamond?

I mean, they can pull him out of the FC game and CD are allowed a full substitute under recent Law changes, right? Not that they will, but

But seriously, Ashok's listed 11: it's surprising if there isn't some late engine room action for Auckland

Soooo, what does he contract with New Zealand cricket mean?
Fair point, I reckon.

Seems to me like the next few months is absolutely vital in terms of designing how our national contracting system and availability for franchise cricket looks.
