Great to see Super Smash at Cobham today. Women's game is looking just a tad one-sided, though...

NZC highlights. Otago batted for 120 balls. It shows Neil Broom lap a six, Rutherford cover drive a one, an lbw at 129-8 then change of innings.

I'm sending an email. Absolute ****ing joke.
I wonder if they're literally just testing out an algorithm which generates highlights packages.

Who are the guys to look out for in the U19 tourny? A couple of guys off to decent starts; Cumming being one. And Boyle. Guys that appeared in the NZ development team.

What's the word on Oscar Jackson, @nzfan? I think he's still at WC, isn't he?

Benji Culhane sounds like a promising keeper-batsman. Scored a Hawke Cup ton and a century at the tournament last season. Son of the former All Black first five.

I liked Toby Findlay's bowling from the videoed game yesterday. Although I am a sucker for a first view of a fast bowler from the front on camera. Seemed to generate the pace and bounce quite fluidly with his action.

Yup the most popular of the players from Wellington is Oscar Jackson. He has smashed runs for fun at college cricket and been talked about as one for the future. I guess everyone is aware of Azhar Abbas' son from Auckland. The kid is left arm pace bowler and a very handy bat. Lachlan Bailey from HIBS is another one from Wellington that's made good strides over the years.

Stevenson, Bonar are older boys I think and they are also talked about quite a bit. They have played under 19s previously for Wellington.

No Ben Sears like bowlers though in the set up this year. Not like we get that kind every year.

Ben Vyer, Niven Dovey are one for the future too. More so Niven Dovey. He may have already played for ND A. Good bat.

The spinner Carr from CD sure has an interesting run up. Who's coaching that?
holy crap!
Maybe he had to hop over something during his run-up when he was learning.
It would be quite offputting the first ball you face from his if never done so before.

Yeah that run-up was amazing.

Shipley 3/14 off 4 is pretty great and good to see O'Rourke getting a game.

Not the right format but I keep looking around the domestic scene wondering who NZ's next test bowlers are after the current crop, and most of the names in the 24y+ bracket look unlikely. There's a big generational gap to the very young like Sears, O'Rourke, Fisher, who all have plenty of development to do anyway. I wonder if Henry Shipley might be an outside chance under the same 'add 5-8km/h to the bowler and see what you get' rule like Jamieson was. Tall, accurate and nips the ball around, probably only bowls 125km/h at present though. Probably wishful thinking re Shipley, but future of the test bowling is looking a little uncertain after the current lot.

Is O'Rourke meant to be any good? I thought he looked quite brisk live but then I was quite drunk at the time and I realise now I was comparing him to the 120-somethings of Williams and Shipley.

I see he is very tall and only 20 so that's promising. He's an Aucklander too which is annoying because beyond Ferguson none of our "pace" bowlers look legit at all.

Matt Boyle, brother of Canty player Jack and son of ex Canty/Wellington player Justin Boyle, has been talked up here in Ch-Ch for sometime as the next big thing, aggressive batsman and bowls leggies (i think). Looks to be killing it in this tournament, two tons and a 91 in his 4 knocks.

Another who has done well this week and has been training with the CD side is Curtis Heaphy who just finished at PNBHS. He has potential in rugby too (played alongside Ruben Love and in Hurricanes development sides) so hopefully sticks with cricket.

Think O'Rourke has potential - he was in NZ U19s couple of seasons ago and bowled inswingers with an action that had his head going in all directions iirc. Seems to have tidied that up and added a little pace.

Liked what I saw of E Schreuder from ND U19 yesterday. Again, the front on camera thoug ... Not got any spectacular tournament numbers yet, though, but they rarely do in this tournament, Usually mediocre spinners dominate the numbers.

Yeah, that was one-sided today. And of course the Blaze are (yet again) steamrolling everyone in the women's comp too.
