Wow what a scorecard. Tbh more I see players like Conway the worse I feel for South Africa who've lost them.
Talk of Conway opening for NZ is interesting, though doesn't necessarily reduce the competition with Young, who has also opened or batted 3 a fair bit in recent years.

Nuttall going at 6s for the second consecutive game and Hazeldine 9s is awful - what is up with those two?

The pummeling of Caterbury attack by Firebirds resumes. There's already been 3 fours and a six in the last 5 overs today. It's going to be a carnage and likely Conway goes past 350+ or even 400 by lunch. Meanwhile J Gibson has been smashing it all over the place as well. Firebirds scoring at run rate over 4.5 and Matt Henry has bowled 29 overs already. I think it's time to rest him up. We need him for black caps. In any case this game is out of hands for Canterbury.

At this rate Jamie Gibson may get a hundy as well.

I think Conway is going to get 400 if they don't declare. It's his day no doubt. Been watching at the ground and canterbury attack is all over the place. Any ball that his Conway's bat seems like going to run away for four.

Was Conway a regular in Franchise cricket in SA, or did he never really break out of the 2nd division comp?

Was an absolute 3 day bully of the highest order. Had a fair few franchise opportunities and averaged the wrong side of 30 iirc

Hence I'm still pretty scepical

That’s surprising, although I think I remember it being mentioned when he first moved over.

He’s looked a class above from the moment I first saw him play in NZ, I have to say.

Declaration, disappointed they didn't at least let Conway surpass Brownlie's score to have the highest in the last 70 years. But still colossal effort.

Yeah, looks like most of his runs came from his time with Gauteng. Averaged 21 for both the Dolphins (9 matches) and the Lions (12 matches) .

I still rate our first-class bowling attacks though, so his form with Wellington gives him a lot of credibility.
