***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2015/16

It shouldn't happen at all. How would you feel if it worked in the other direction and they took away a century.
In practice I suspect if they would only do it where it would benefit the batsman. If only they could have done that when Graeme Hick got his 98*

Wheeler starting his comeback. Saw Kurt Richards in CA A, recall him playing one first class game back in 09. My entire knowledge of him is playing against him as a 12 yo (he looked 18 at the time), perhaps not as daunting these days..
I remember playing in a Form 2 Tourney against him in Palmy. Cheeky fella tried to convince us he was an offie.

Huzah. SteveNZ's highly rated Bharat Popli scores first class 100 number one.
Haha. I wasn't aware he was so young. Will put my hand up and say I judged him on a much earlier product, and by the sounds one when he was giving the game less time than he is now.

Enjoyed the Obscure Domestic XI, even if it contained no Auckland representation. May I suggest Tip Friday, who played 5 FC/9 LA/2 T20 matches across three provinces and still managed to play for an NZ XI. Jono Sole another candidate, and Matt Cairns/Rob Lynch/Guy Coleman/Tane Topia all 1 or 2 gamers going back a decade or so. And of course Luke Vivian with his 5 pound (wtf) bat and lumberjack looks.

That Rangiora pitch is so green it's almost indecipherable from the outfield, so a young opener to score 101 out of 208 on (an albeit truncated) day one is a bit of a 'take notice' performance.

Ugh. Such a bad way to get out on a the score formerly known as 99. Spooning it to extra cover of the splice.

On looking at his boundaries not sure what make if it actually. A lot of aerial runs over gully, giving him some credit for using Tickner's height and bounce. But some of his earlier ones looked streaky and were some genuine edges from flaying at some width.

Milne batting at 6 for CD. Da ****?

Meanwhile, another hundred for Ronchi.

Just about given up on Sodhi as a long form cricketer. He's still young, and I know spin bowling in NZ is a tough gig, but he's just not developed as he should've given all the opportunities he's been afforded over the last 2 years. Meanwhile Astle mugs another 3 for not many to show just how easy it should be to take domestic polls when you're a leggy with a decent wrong'un.

Colin continues to position himself for Baz's spot with another EPOO mauling.

Btw, I know we're all a bit sneery about Astle's international potential given his lack of pace, bounce and accuracy, but shouldn't he at least be given a chance at some point? Including the SLA tour, he's taken 93 wickets at 25.56 in his last couple of seasons.

So did anyone catch the live stream of today's play between Auckland and ND? Apparently Auckland are going to do it all season.

Are there any tours to SL/India/UAE/WI pencilled in? I think NZ should take both Astle and Craig on those, and most likely play one of them plus Santner.

Astle's domestic average is incredible really - much like Patel in County Cricket you just keep expecting it will fall back to earth one season, but it doesn't. In my view Craig (as the incumbent) should need to be taking wickets in the low 30s at most when he returns to Otago, to stay ahead of Astle, and I doubt he will. So yeah, Astle deserves a chance.

N Patel looks handy judging from the wicket balls.
Yeah Navin Patel can bowl some crackers with his weird action. Saw some really bouncy and unplayable jaffas that angled in and cut away from him with the new ball in the A tourney last season too, even on the roads of Lincoln. I also saw him bowling pies and getting smashed by ND's Tyler Lawton at the death of one game, so it seems red ball is the right format for him atm.

eh, i thought we were all in agreement he was quicker through the air these days?

gets decent bounce with reliable enough accuracy too. iirc on his test debut the consensus was "bowled well, but too slow so missed out on wickets"

worth a look next time nz want two or three spinners in a squad.

Re his pace, don't really think he looks too different to his test run, but without speed readings its all but impossible to pick. His accuracy however, is anything but reliable. The first of his three wickets today was a knee high full toss, and he gets a few like that. I mean, he's accurate compared to Sodhi, but that's not a barometer that any reasonable person would use.
