**Official** New Zealand Domestic Season 2013/2014

Bit of a tangent, but I had a chuckle at a post I saw on a Zimbabwe cricket forum the other day. The guy was ever so confused as to why CdG hadn't been able to make the New Zealand A team, accused the selectors of picking him originally just to stop him going home and then went on to suggest he'd "add some stability" to the Zimbabwe batting lineup at number four. Keep in mind that Brendan Taylor bats four of them.

Ignoring the conspiracy theory, I think it's a great example of something I said on here a few times - that Colin has developed into such a remarkably different player in New Zealand to what he was a youth cricketer and what he was expected to become in Zimbabwe. He was regarded as a proper, compact top four batsman. It's amazing what a change in environment can do to the attitude to your own game; he's a lot more expressive of himself in an environment where he's not had the benefit of more coaching than a lot of his peers. Less pressure to be the man I suppose, even in club cricket.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that even if he did come "home" he'd probably bat six or seven, be wholly frustrating to all and sundry and only have his place cemented due to his ability to take the fifth bowler's duties (which funnily enough wasn't really much of a factor at all before he moved).

Great to see Guptill ton up against a decent first class attack, even if it is against us. Between him, Raval, Redmond and Papps it's good to have blokes putting pressure on Rutherford and Fulton, even if the latter two fringe players are long odds to be given a long run ever again in the test side as a last chance.

Because he has gargantuan technical issues that have been exposed ruthlessly since his debut. But yes, never is a strong word. He needs to move down to Welly and get Siddons to sort him out first though.

His main issues were locking his front knee with no bend, playing well in front of his body with hard hands and having no clue to spin.

He looks much better on the two former, and only a test stint will show his improvement (or lack of) at the latter. He's still a guy I back to figure it out eventually, but it will take a bit of time.

He also brings his bat down from an awfully wide angle when playing defensively, which leaves both the inside and outside edges vulnerable if there's any movement either through the air or off the pitch.

A fair bit more. Haven't seen much of him but he's off to a solid start. He and Mark Craig have been pretty solid additions to their respective sides.

So how many wickets does Ajaz Patel need before he starts to be considered?
I like the highlights I've seen, but he's only playing here because Nethula is unavailable. Should perhaps consider a move to ND who may not be able to rely on Vettori or Sodhi's availability in future; all the other domestic sides have entrenched spinners.

Or he could just try to topple Nethula as CD's first spinner.

Promising left arm spinner from Gillette Cup featured on TVNZ sports news.

I really like Patel's action, very proper. If he can turn the ball he could develop.

That young fella is hardly a copy of DV.. Run up wise i guess, but has a weird pause as he approaches the crease. Good luck to him.
