Strangest situation in history - full-toss from Hira gets hit back by the batsman which hits Hira's fingers, onto the non-striker's bat, up onto Billy Bowden's chest and down onto the stumps. The non-striker is out of his crease, and Bowden goes upstairs. It's called not out, presumably because the ball is dead due to hitting Bowden...

Very odd but the right result.
I don't think the ball is actually dead in this situation, but I agree that 'not out' was the right decision. Would have been a farce of World Cup 2007 Final proportions otherwise.

Auckland's awful bowling punished in the end, as Canterbury get up off the last ball. Dreadful last over from Martin despite picking up a wicket.

Very poor performance from Auckland in the field. Croft's drop on the boundary was pretty similar to Bowden's drop the other day.

Bowden, I see, went for plenty today whilst Houghton redeemed his figures somewhat with a much more miserly display.

Franklin was 1 off 5 balls, and sailed onto 17 off 8!! Taking Bruce Martin to the cleaners.

Has been a habit off him so far, get his eye in and then blasts away.

I'm thinking of writing a letter to Cricket Wellington protesting at the continued selection of Dewayne Bowden. He's a shocker. I know for a fact that a guy called Voltman could offer:

(1) More with the ball
(2) More with the bat
(3) An equally low standard in the field
(4) A lot more sledging, albeit of his own team

Therefore, Voltman >>> Dewayne Bowden and should be playing for Wellington.

QED.

I'd be happy to sign it, but I object to point 3. I'm yet to drop a catch (that I've got my hands on) so far this year - and that skied caught and bowled catch doesn't count..

And I don't think someone with a throwing arm like yours should be disparaging anyone else's fielding...

Don't need to throw [so much] when you can stop the ball before it goes past you... Plus, I've got a run out this year (even though the batsman was about 90 years old, it was a valuable run out given they needed only 7 runs to win at the time)

Not sure why you always seem to be able to make #4 the most overwhelmingly used of your cricket skills either.

Anyone know why Franklin isn't bowling for Wellington? Is he injured again?
Too hittable in 20/20 cricket, especially given that he's only about 80%. Don't know if we'll see him back in the national side (barring the 20/20's) until he's had at least 3 or 4 FC games so that the selectors can gauge where he's at.
