R.Ponting
B.Lara
R.Dravid (cpt)
J.Kallis
A.Gilchrist (wk)
S.Pollock
S.Akhtar
M.Muralitharan
G.McGrath

Am I the only person in the whole world to have noticed that Kallis' Test record is very comparable to the awesome Garry Sobers?

I was in the middle of typing my team out and noticed that a massive zebra had kindly done it for me already.

Thankyou, a massive zebra.

so for u vaughan is not GOOD enough to be in there?
Not yet no - he's not done it consistently enough for me yet - certainly not as much as the likes of Hayden, Gibbs, Smith etc.

tooextracool said:
why shouldnt harmison be in there....on current form hes the best bowler in the world....
No, he's not - and at the end of the day, he's got to show he can do it against other sides to be ahead of the McGrath's and Akhtar's of the world for me.

tooextracool said:
if englishmen arent that good then can u explain what they are doing at no 3 in the icc test championship table?

Because we're currently punching above our weight - playing as a team.

there was only one place that i could put kallis and that was at no 6. then i saw that there was no point having a defensive player like him at 6....

Why should you have an aggressive player at 6?

Assuming that you have Gilchrist (who I believe is no slouch) at 7, why not a player who can stay in at 6?

yes because mr akhtar is so consistent.....bring on the kiwis hes probably saying now. i would not have a player like akhtar(albeit he provides the variety but so does harmison) on the team with only 2 other frontline pace bowlers...pollock and mcgrath who bowl pretty much the same thing because hes a bowler who has one good spell every 10 games and then gets smashed all over the park. my team is based on current form and on current form harmison should definetly be in the squad.

My team...I am playing 2 spinners (while I believe Warne is better, Murali would stil be easily good enough to get in the team).

Right:

Hayden
Vaughan
Ponting
Kallis
Dravid
Freddie (I think he's really matured)
Gilchrist
Pollock
Warne
Murali
McGrath

Absolute balderdash :)

He is a good and improving player, who is worthy of his England place, but you cant average 25 with the bat and 40+ with the ball and be one of the best in the world.. Id put these guys ahead of him in the all rounder stakes..

Shaun Pollock
Jacques Kallis
Abdur Razzaq
Chris Cairns
Sanath Jayasuriya (massively under rated bowler)
Heath Streak

Nope...

I even dared to compare Kallis to Sobers.. I went as far as saying he was "maybe as good"

I got shot down in flames and everything  I wont be doing that again and I apologize for even suggesting that anyone could possibly get near being nearly as good as Sir Garfield...

No, I'm happy with that, but he's by no means good enough to make the best XI as he's not better than Kallis or Pollock

hey i think he averages about 28 with the bat now in tests

and if you look at his ODI figures...averages just over 30 with the bat (38 in the last 30 matches at a fair old rate)....and under 25 with the ball at a run rate of 4.2 (21 in the last 30 matches at a run rate of 3.86...which you have to admit is very impressive...and he is getting better all the time.

Mustnt forget his slip fielding as well

Whereas Tom over-rates him, I think you under-rate him and are not looking at his full picture.

His averages are continuing to get closer and closer - Since 2002 he's averaging 35 with the bat and 41.84 and since his promotion in the One Day Order (which I think had a major affect on his entire outlook) it's 42.56 with the bat and 37 with the ball - which would've been even better had he not missed 4 "gimme" Tests!

I would rank him below the 2 South Africans, but not many others now, and certainly that's the first time I've heard Jayasuriya called an all-rounder in Tests!

call me biased but I'm suprised to see that noone has elected Stephen Fleming as their captain.

I rate Fleming much higher than Ponting (as a captain)

Agree there.

Haven't got round to my XI yet, so here goes:

Fleming (capt)
Hayden
Ponting
Lara
Dravid
Kallis
Pollock
Taibu (wk)
Akhtar/Warne (pitch dependent)
Muralitharan
Harmison

Yes, but the problem is, his batting is nowhere near the quality of the middle order (I mean lets face it, somone like SRT or Kallis is going to be missing) and with Smith's captaincy so far and his position as an opener (much less competition) that is why people can't find a spot for him.

In One Days there's more of a chance, but even then for me he has to open to make it.

I disagree with Taibu as keeper. What exactly makes everyone so enamored of him? Must be his wily off-spinning ways. Sangakkara, Boucher, Moin Khan, these are all better keepers than Taibu. I suppose if there was a restriction that Zimbabwe needed a representative, then it would have to be Taibu now, but otherwise, why him?

Smith's captaincy so far? Are you referring to his utter choking in the one-dayers in New Zealand or how he managed to let a demoralized England side climb back for a 2-2 draw?

Hayden
Jayasuria
Ponting (c)
Dravid
Lara (vc)
Kallis

Pollock
Warne
Kumble

:o no tendulkar... i dont think he warants a place in the middle order after ther performances of the others over that last 1-2 years...

i would also bat Dravid ahead of Lara... reasons
1) more consistant

2) takes longer to score his runs, so get him in earlier - not that run rate would ever be a problem...
