Well, that all but assures another semifinal (sigh of relief). Great effort from the bowlers to restrict SL to 171 on this ground. Guess we'll take the usual Pakistan defeats if they keep missing out on NRR!

Sad end for Madhushanka though, one of the less celebrated stars of the tournament.

Congratulations NZ. This was a pantsing. With no washouts in the group stage, there can't be any complaints about the fairness. Big question marks in both batting and bowling for SL going forward but I hope Mathews gets recalled to at least one more tournament last minute.

Madushanka has been one of the best bowlers of the tournament, not much else to write home about for Sri Lanka though.

Their batsmen had their moments like Perera today but they weren't consistent enough, they still miss the experience of Sangakkara and Jayawardene.

Job done. Stoked with at least a ticket to the show, even if our odds of getting past India are very slim.

Definitely the most nervous about our bowling stocks, unless Trent does his thing again and gets up front wickets.

Job well done.

Helped by Sri Lanka's top order being abject, of course.

Semi final will be fun - no expectations.

Black Caps to play spoil sports by beating India, sending 1 billion people into an existential wasteland of pain & despair, manifesting itself in physical and demonstrative expressions of anger. The tournament will be robbed of the India vs Australia blockbuster that all and sundry are craving. In the final, one side will melt down spectacularly batting first or chasing, bringing up a rare ‘Threepeat’, while we are treated to absolute scenes of jubilation from the other side with rivers of champagne and ‘winners are grinners’ celebrations running amok, overlaid with acidicly bitter and sarcastic commentary towards the beaten outfit by the likes of Gavaskar and Manjrekar.

Wow you somehow managed to be a prophet of doom and misery even when predicting that your team would win against the odds.
