***Official***Match #32 - New Zealand vs South Africa - November 1st - Pune (D/N)

This is their first bad game of the tournament, NZ are a great side they will bounce back. I think they underestimated SA a bit. Don't really think they appreciated how good this SA pace attack is with their decision to bat first ..And of course we've clearly shown in this tournament that we are a nervous side batting second.
What was Latham thinking before chose to Bowl first ?
Even a little child know that South Africa has serious weakness chasing the target .after the match Latham was said we will chose to bowl first if I get another chance .
Btw who are the reserve players of NZ ?
They need to drafted atleast two player in 15 members squad.

This is another downside of NZ only ever selecting players who are 30+. Injuries become a lot more common as players age. In a tournament like this it can all unravel pretty quickly.

I love the NZ cricket fanbase. Most reactive fanbase in sport

win a couple games they are the greatest team in history, lose a couple and they're falling apart with 99 problems that no one knew existed a week before

Not Terrible
Seems unlikely any reserve player will make it by Saturday.

So

Conway
Young
Rachin
Mitchell
Latham (+)
Phillips
Neesham
Santner
Southee
Sodhi
Boult

Still a decent team that I’ll back to get the job done. Excited to finally see Sodhi get a game!

Apparently Ferguson should be ok to play this game, btw. So maybe Sodhi still won’t get a shot.

So if you can't replace injured players in the squad, what happens if you have 5 unavailables? Surely you aren't forced to play with 10 so what's the protocol? You can bring a player in from outside the squad only if you have 5 or more injuries?

You’d just have to permanently replace one of the players in the squad I guess. The problem for NZ is they’re all expected to recover before the semis so they don’t really want to rule any of them out for the rest of the tournament.

But by not replacing them you are seriously running the risk of not even making the semis.

Yeah Latham's batting has been rank awful. I wouldn't give him all the blame for the toss decision - stand-in captain so Stead and Williamson doubtless involved - but haven't been in favour of some of the bowling change decisions either. E.g. slow to bring on Phillips vs Australia, and leaving a heap of part-timer overs to the end vs South Africa instead of sneaking a couple more in during overs 30-40.
