Of coursem but it was said only half seriously and far more with tongue in cheek! :)
All right then mate, just so as we know. We like a bit of banter here, just best not to start it so much until people get to know you a bit better - easy to get the wrong impression from text after all.

Also, the fact that Ireland has beaten 2 of the 3 teams I dislike the most (England and Pakistan) makes me appreciate them even more. :p

Now if they can beat the third team I dislike the most as well, that being Australia, I'll open my own Irish pub.
More unnecessary qualifiers from Turbs.

Just do it already.

Indian batting is in good health, but the bowling is still a matter of concern. Yet, no effort has been made to bring them up to speed in this game. Except Zaheer, and by a long shot, Harbhajan, none are doing so well. Munaf still bowls like a gentle medium-pacer. Chawla is struggling with line and length and may sadly lose his place in the team. Harbhajan himself isn't getting wickets, with just one in three. Nehra and Ashwin have yet to play, and Ashwin is the more relevant of the two. Sreesanth's laid by the wayside on account of one bad match, when the regular and replacement have done no better. Yusuf hasn't been given much of a chance, and though he's bowled eighteen overs in three games, has just one wicket.

And if the team thinks they can sit on Yuvraj's five, they're sitting on a tinder box, as it's a different matter bowling to a World Cup contender without all the protection- he's been far worse than the other bowlers against England. He's not even one-tenth the all-rounder, let alone the bowler, that Shane Watson is. Can he maintain a Hashim Amla-esque batting record whilst turning in so many overs of left-arm-flat? No way.

The next game should have Sreesanth and possibly Ashwin returning, just to get them up to speed. Dhoni should convince Harbhajan to attack and take risks, and assure him of protection. They should also give more chances, and possibly more protection, to Yusuf Pathan, so that he can be the fifth bowler- he's a better and more useful choice than Yuvraj. The runs Yuvraj scores are far more relevant, so h e should concentrate on that. Netherlands are no threat, and India may eventually make the knockouts, so they need to sharpen all fifteen points of the blade when they face a trophy contender there.

You take what you get in fielding. Dhoni's spread-out fields demand nine Jonty clones, but all of these fielders, except Munaf, are either decent or breathtaking, man for man.

Not to take anything away from Ireland, who have performed brilliantly at times, but I don't know about these pitches in this World Cup.

Earlier today I was praising the pitches because the England/South Africa game was so entertaining.

But the more I watch every team bowl extra slow offspin into complete dust-bowls of pitches, the more I realize these pitches are having a leveling effect on the game.

It's like teams are trying to guess how far the ball will spin, and it's a Russian Roulette kind of luck where the team that wins seems to be the side that just missed the ball, rather than nicked the ball.

Maybe I'm wrong. After all, playing spin is part of the game! Different conditions call for different styles of cricket, and teams are required to play spin well.

But Ireland don't have a world class bowling attack, and their off-spinners are beating the outside edge of the Indian batsman!

The games are having more of a feel like, "well let's just bowl the ball down the pitch, and the pitch will take care of the rest." We've all seen games that have been called off because the pitch is poor and teams can't score off them. These pitches aren't remotely that bad. But surely there's a line where pitches are so poor that they become more of a leveling influence on the game, rather than a surface that allows the better team to express their talents and win.
The same goes for green-tops or any other bowler friendly pitches!!!

don't think India ever got out of the 3rd gear in this game the victory on paper does not look dominant but tbh India hardly looked to be breaking a sweat if Yuvraj gets his mojo back India wins the cup.

Direland.

Lost money on them. Was still counting when Ind were hundred for four.
I bet on them the previous match against England! when they were 180-5 I just had a great feeling once O brian got in (wasnt overly confident but thought it was worth a punt)

That is where the money is!

I was disappointed that India took this game very lightly and many threw their wickets away, but it was good for India to experiment against poorer opposition.

Absolutely, as Dhoni said, making sure all our batters got a chance to have a bat was crucial and a team like Ireland is the place to get your batting time in before we play the more powerful teams!

Are you suggesting the batsmen got out deliberately to give everyone a hit?

Pretty much. Unless your Australia, pace is our friend. I predicted that our batting would struggle badly against Bangladesh (and subsequently India) while it would be much more successful against England.
TBF, it's still the case against Australia. Last we played we were all over their bowling 'til they brought on James Hopes .

We have to face Storkel in a few days and that's the only remotely encouraging thing I can think of.

Hopes the destroyer. That's got to sting.

It's true that Ireland's strength is against pace bowling. I daresay that's one of the benifits batsmen like Portefield and Joyce get from early-season county cricket. Lets them spend a lot more time facing good pace bowling and sporting pitches.

Wasn't really including Joyce, though, he's only just got back. Stirling and the O'Brien's get the job done against the fast men because they have better eyes than they have footwork. Porterfield's just a good all-round batsman. Botha, Cusack, Johnston, White and Wilson are all a bit meh regardless of what they're facing. Hate to say it but Morgan's dominance against spin would be massive in our middle order.

Hopes the destroyer is better than Owais Shah the destroyer.. Although that one hurts just a little less now :D.
