Personally Latham is the one I would have expected more from last night. Great platform set up, conditions he’s good in, we needed him to bat with Mitchell through to the 46th and start putting some pressure on the bowlers.

This opportunity is a big miss imo

Hopefully we do well in the coming games as its going to get tough agaisnt quality sides

scoring only 55 with 7 wickets in hand was a big letoff , they didnt show enough intent, though bumrah and co were superb, also was a bit hard for new guys to come in and hit as the pitch was slowish , dew in 2nd innings eased it out , but thats no excuse

also with the bowling

lockie wasnt even trying to bowl yorkers man , didnt bowl any
he was so good in 2019 doing that , remember one to FAF, was epic

also no slower balls, cutters, back of the hand

indian bowlers did all of that which made life difficult

lockie and others too just kept on bowling short balls lmao , as if it was going to trouble em on a slow pitch with well set batsman

it wasnt threatening at all

I didn't see the bowling innings so I won't comment but I think this undersells the Indian bowling even though you do give them credit. Apart from their superb first ten, in the last 15 whenever Mitchell et al tried to find gaps there just weren't any. And so when they tried to go over they got out. There was plenty of intent. It was simply outdone by phenomenal tight bowling to a plan. We can analyse all we want but India were just better than our batsmen could handle. If anything Ravindra tried to hit out too early...a few more overs with him in might've been better because it seemed like it was decided he would be the one to lift with Mitchell the one to anchor and he got out almost straight away.

Whatever it takes!!!
The only negative thing with India doing well is that lots of troll posters start unnecessary hyping up India . And these guys will disappear when we lose overseas in SENA countries 🕵️‍♀️
Number 11 is pretty much gambhiring like that time subs started a thread on India's test side.

daily reminder that india won all group stage games in 2015 WC and lost in the semifinal

yesterday's win means nothing
I agree it’s not meaningful but 2015 is irrelevant, you still want to win all your group stage matches.

India also had a much easier group and format iin 2015

Ind beat SA in 2015 WC by 130 runs who nearly beat NZ in SF . Please stop devaluing your own team victory .

What are you talking about?

India was not the best team in the competition in 2015. That was Aus playing at home. The Indian team in 2015 had far more weaknesses than the current team, esp when account7ing for conditions. It’s not a relevant comparison.

I haven't caught much of Ferguson's bowling this tournament so far, so that's news if he's not bowling many slower balls. Think it's notable that on these pitches, the two quickest bowlers in the tournament (Rauf and Wood) have been absolutely pummelled. "I'd like to report a murder" level of pummelled. Ferguson probably the next quickest and a similar style of bounce bowler (someone like Starc is different), so he's going to need to have his variations working as the tournament progresses.

Express pacers are good value against associate teams

Not ideal bowling with dew around unless they have a plan B that brings their pinpoint accuracy into play

No , I am not saying India was better than Aus in 2015 . I am saying topping in our group wasn’t that easy that you are writing it off .

It involved beating SA and Pakistan which I’m not discounting; it wasn’t easy. That said, I’m just not sure it’s analogous because a) this format is harder and b) someone would have to pull of an upset to beat us. BTW, I’m still nervous as hell about the knockouts.

This is all hindsight of course but looking at how the pitch was behaving when India started bowling, I thought Southee would've been better than Ferguson in those conditions.

Southee also has a very good Test record in India . So he definitely knows how to bowl on these tracks

It won't be popular on here, but I'd love to see Southee get given a go bowling first change. His record in ODIs since the last World Cup has been solid, much better than Ferguson, and sometimes you just have to forget about the role your players are playing and give the guys who are performing a go.
