Well all i can say is at least we only have 2 games left after this one and can leave it teams who actually care and are trying to fight it out.

PATHETIC

how did we let Broad score 150 he looks a complete hack on the other times I have seen him bat maybe there was more then spot fixing in that game.
It helps when he's actually had some serious batting in the weeks prior to the game. Don't forget that he's barely lifted a bat in anger since the final test against Pakistan. That and he's barely faced a decent leggie in his life.

Pretty sure Tremmers would've played by now if he was in the squad. He's there as a replacement option only.
Dont think hes fit to lace the boots of the reserve squad member if you ask me. We're carrying a number of passengers in the XI, its just pathetic that the rest of the people in the squad are so inept that we basically have no choice but to stick with the likes of Yardy.

Wow, is it possible for England to be out of the QF?

I still think they'll make it but this doesn't help their NRR, assuming they do go and lose this.
It pretty much all comes down to the game against Bangladesh. If they win that one they'll probably qualify. Lose and they could be in big trouble.

If Bangladesh surprise SA (unlikely but not impossible) a win might not be enough if we lose to the Windies too.

Ireland should really have beaten Bangladesh in that game.

The Bangers have been desperately disappointing in this tournament.

I can't see Bangladesh beating ENG or SAF.

Come on Tigers ....

In a sense, today doesn't change anything. Any sane observer always knew we were likely to be stuffed by SA. WI look reasonably competent, which should be more than enough for us. So if we beat Bang, we finish a point ahead of them?

The whole thing's been an afterthought. Look at the situation with the opening batsmen. Davies plays one game. Prior comes in and lasts a handful. Come the WC, and KP's the man for the job. Which, apart from not working, leaves us short of anyone who even has the potential to do anything in the middle order. Beyond that, as your post intimated, the backup in the squad is so dire that even the performances we've seen haven't left us any options beyond sticking with Yardy.

That being said, I dunno who the alternatives are. Perhaps we should simply play the Lions side on our 50-overs games. If nothing else, they might look as if they want to be there.
Agreed. I dont really rate Davies, he has a few technical weaknesses, but that is irrelevant. If Davies is the best bat in the country, then he needs to be here. I could care less if Prior makes a better wingman for Stuart Broad than Davies, but the selection of Prior for the umpteenth time is really inexplicable.

The way forward from here is to start afresh. About half of this squad needs to be discarded including KP and Ian Bell (who continues to throw his wicket away instead of kicking on). Build the side around Trott, Strauss, Morgan, Swann, Broad, Bresnan and Bopara.

It would be interesting to see how the subcontinental teams play Tahir. He is a good bowler no doubt, but his real test will come up against a Sehwag or Misbah or Sanga, some of the finest players of spin.

Yep, and also if Ireland upset the WI and beat the Netherlands then England would face the need to beat Bangladesh and the WI to qualify (I actually think this scenario is a little more likely than Bangladesh beating SA).
But whichever way you look at it England really need to win the game against Bangladesh.

what happened to Kieswetter? Prior has done nothing to deserve his place in the side. KP has been average. He needs a break. Its been quite a while since he has substantially performed. And a big No to Yardy.

KP doesnt need a break, he needs to go play CC and learn how to bat again. We all know how dangerous he was when he first came into the side and he came in on the back of strong domestic performances.

Surprised England also didn't bring Adil Rashid. Surely a better option than Yardy and Tredwell and he is a very good batsman.

Question to the SA fans. How do you rate this team compared to the one featured in the 99WC?. Personally think, That side was a better batting unit but this side definitely has the advantage of having a good spinner and probably better in bowling on the whole.

England's handling of Rashid has been very odd for a while now. If he's going to feature in any WC, surely the one in the SC should be the one.

Yes, so long as BD beats Netherlands and loses to SA which is likely.

If that happens the Eng-WI tie is probably irrelevant; win or lose, England will still have to beat BD. Things could get complicated if Ireland pulls off another surprise though.

Ireland must be really kicking themselves for losing to BD when they had a very makeable target. If they had won that, they probably would have qualified by beating Netherlands and getting 6 points.
