***Official***Match #20- England vs S Africa - October 21st - Wankhede (D/N)

King Kane

International Regular
Topley getting England back on top with a couple of crucial wickets.

Now SA's weak lower order is exposed, Jansen is handy with the bat but he is batting at least one or two spots too high.

South Africa won two games convincingly battling first. And choked the only time they chased and that too a modest total against a minnow. And when your batting is relative light today (England's), it makes no sense for them to chase and also because of what happened againsg Afghanistan..

Obsession of teams to continue to blindly choose to bowl first is getting ridiculous imo.
as mentioned a few times, those who chose to bat have so far lost every time - dutch may buck that trend even if it is only P4 L4.

Sri Lanka wobbling somewhat at 104/3, the current required rate is not likely to be a problem, depth of their batting might be beyond the current pair who've added 41 but taken 10.4 overs to do so

could be a repeat of the win over the saffers, that took a 70 from someone middle order (Englebrecht this time, Van Beek also scoring fifty to help add 130 for the 7th wicket off 23.5 overs)

might already be in sight of too big of a target, Coetzee hit 22 in their defeat and Maharaj 40. Not sure you can even argue England's bowling is better than dutch based on 3/4 matches so far!

there's a big clue in England captains name as to what some of the bowling should be doing..... (and I ain't Jos....hing, the surname)

Just tuning in, and this scorecard has a very BazBall v BazBall look to it. I guess both teams are disgusting and deserve to suffer? Plz advise if I’ve missed something

I thought Atkinson was rapid
only on the way to the boundary...........! (as in the ball)

Even if saffers managed a Test old skool rate of 3 an over England would face a daunting total, even if England knocked them over for another 20-30 at any old rate would still be much the same daunting total. If anyone thinks 300+ is par 9 sides have won so far batting first, 245-288 was enough for four of those sides including AFG vs ENG and HOL vs SAF

on the flip side four similar size totals have been chased, three being India over Afghanistan, and India and kiwis over Bangladesh ie the totals were decent from not top quality sides but the sides chasing were top sides

can just imagine onfield chat

England fielder : "what's the plan then, skip?"
Buttler : "yes, we could try skipping"

A good result there for England, just one run off that over from Atkinson off the last ball and it allows Jansen to keep the strike.
