Well done Pakistan. First team to qualify for the quarters; right ? It wasn't without a few jitters, but a win is a win. Afridi seems to be in the best bowling form of his life. If he carries on like this, he could well end up with the man-of-the-tournament trophy.

On a side note, it was a little disappointing to see Shahzad and Gul having a go at Balaji (and I am not saying that because Balaji is an Indian-born player :p); but running your mouth at a number ten player from an associate side, with the game very much in the bag, is despicable. We'll see if Gul and Shahzad have the audacity to do it to Sangakkara or Ponting.

What I want to know is, what's KP doing with the ball there? Sort of... waggling it?
When a wicket falls you have to give the ball back to the umpire. You aren't allowed to hold it in a huddle

KP was waving the ball to let the umpire know he was going to throw it at him.

It did however look incredibly ***ual.

It was quite lucky that our batting collapsed against Canada and hopefully it will wake up the batsmen for future games. I don't think the problem was the swing because most of the wickets were due to poor shots (Afridi, Akmal, Shehzad) and just poor batting (Misbah, Razzaq).

By the way, how were Riaz and Gul today; did they get any swing and can Riaz bowl the in swinger to the right-hander yet.

They were alright.Gul was getting some swing, but both were a bit wayward in line.Wahab didn't have a good enough to game a warrant a place over Shoaib, even though he did take a pretty good catch.

I dont support abuses, but Balaji was already tolerating Gul, Drama Queen Shehzad should have not got into act, that really irked Balaji and Shehzad got what he deserved!! Pakistani players sometimes do cross limit, reminded me of Aameer-Sidhu, Sachin-Random 2003WC Wicketkeeper.
Happens a lot of time, and will continue to happen. It's all a part of the game.I for one,see nothing wrong in it as long as you're not beating the other guy up.Verbal banter is very much a part of international cricket now.

Leave your Pakistani hatred aside. Every team does it,and will continue to do so.It's perfectly normal. The only reason Gul and Shehzad are getting slack is because Balaji reacted to it.The opposition will always roughen up the batsman, and since Balaji bowled well today, they used that as an excuse to get under his skin.A player from a non-associate team would probably have not reacted that way since they face this situation everytime they go on the field.

Non-issue really.

If only Gul could have taken a few wickets instead of opening his mouth so much our draft team would have gained tremendously.

I don't like players talking about sisters & mothers of each others. I heard something from Balaji & sure Ahmed Shahzad would have said something similar.
But again there should be some limits from both batsman & Bowler/Fielders.

By The Way, If pitches are going to be same in other Pakistan matches then i'm sure Pakistan will bat the way they batted today. I saw ball swinging till 27th over but after that went to the job.
Bowling was ok just missing some bite. I would rather like to Drop Hafeez & open with Kamran Akmal & will replace Hafeez with Wahab Riaz in original Squad.

Pakistan can be a very real threat in this competition, but as everyone knows, can be pronie to being their own worst enemy, as today nearly demonstrated perfectly.

I like the players and the balance they have in this side, I know some people think that Abdul Razzaq may be wasted at 8, and that they could lose a batsman for another specialist bowler, but I like the depth and they still have an abundance of bowling options.

The concern is that they have a particularly bad day in the knockout phase. The top three are yet to instill absolute confidence, and must find that consistency to ensure Younis and Misbah have a day off from having to rebuild the innings, a job they are most adept at. The power hitters of Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, and Abdul Razzaq towards the end of an innings is a daunting sight for opposition bowlers, fearful of getting the yorker just slightly wrong and generally resulting in a new ball needed.

As well as the top three concerns, if, as happened today, they lose wickets at the top, can those same power hitters have the versatility and play sensible cricket to help Pakistan to a respectable total, or will they go down swinging ?

The bowling is full of bowlers able to take a wicket, led by Shoaib Akhtar. Gul may not have hit his straps yet, but we all know his capabilities, Rehman or Ajmal are two decent spin options imo, while Wahab Riaz (and Ajmal) will be better for some game time today. Razzaq may be a slight weak link for me, but with Hafeez as a further spin option, they have cover for him on an off day. Shahid Afridi is obviously on fire at the moment and is comfortably the leading wicket-taker in the tournament at this stage.

Like I've said previously, I've given up on trying to predict what Pakistan will do, but what is evident is the potential for them to go really far in this competition.

We have faced the likes of Southee et al in New Zealand and won those matches, so swing isn't a problem (especially if they see of the new ball and put poor balls away to the boundary). The problem today was timid batting (openers) and bad shots. Barring Hafiz, everyone else gave their wickets away to some ordinary bowling. Although credit must be given to Balaji and Baidwan.

Razzaq is the power hitter who can occupy the crease for a long time, though he only has two gears.Personally,i'm glad that they had a wake-up call against Canada.Pakistan isn't the sort of team that will go through the whole competition unbeaten. They will have a few bad days, and this was one of them.Having said that,i think a total of 200 odd, even against the best batting sides, can be defended by this team. It's just the enormous amount of faith i have in Afridi's captaincy.

It's only been 3 matches into the tournament, but talk about leading from the front.Love the guy.
