Only watched the last 3-4 overs but Azmat essentially seems to be bowling a succession of 128kph long hops. Is the pitch really so slow or so two-paced that that’s unplayable?

Patience needed, though Phillips is usually much more comfortable going after the bowling.
Phillips does look like he's not sure how to approach this innings. He hasn't batted at 6 in ODIs a lot, and I doubt he's batted in many scenarios like this where we can't afford for him to get out.

This particular innings is a good audition of sorts to see how he might go in test cricket. Afghanistan have been quite fantastic in the last 10 overs or so.

Things have slowed down obviously but run rate is secondary at the moment. NZ need to set a platform.
