He averaged negative 20 in india before that ashes and was terrible in that first ashes test where he got runs, got dropped 5 or 6 times. He's been struggling with the bat for ages outside of the occasional gun 50.

Keepers do that all the time. The difference there was that:

1. He actually hit the ****ing stumps.
2. Bairstow was out of his crease.
3. The captain didn't withdraw the appeal.

Noone in Australia wants to drop Carey from a different format months and tournaments later and accepting his presence until now.

He was dropped for batting like **** in this format for ages. I actually wouldn't have dropped him myself but it was perfectly justified and had nothing to do with his proficiency at stumping dozy ***** off quick bowlers.
