India were losing this Test even with Bumrah. Maybe it would have been 3-4 wkt loss.
It wasn’t a 160 pitch . Needed minimum 220.
Due to non-existent batting we played 2 spin bowling all rounders on a seamers paradise 😑
No point mulling over it. These things happen. But I agree once Australia got India out cheaply it was their game.

My fellow Shoaib fans will now understand why I can't rate him as highly because he regularly broke down mid test. As we saw with Bumrah in Sydney, this can have a devastating effect on a team and frankly can counteract a lot of the good of your bowling in previous games.
I would had understood if Bumrah skipped over this match, he didn't. He suffered an injury mid game, can happen to any bowler really. Have happened to almost all at some point.

This rarely if ever happens to Bumrah.

However it frequently happened to Shoaib and this test just shows how damaging it can be and why Shoaib can't be rated that highly.

Yeah, but till now it's a one of incident for Bumrah really. In the past he have finished 5 match series (eg last England tour) and he only really sit out in dead rubbers. If he gets injured 2 or 3 times more mid games, I can understand the critic. But it's a way too soon call really.

By the sounds of it, Bumrah's injury was more of a scare. Also a warning that he can't be bowling 25 overs in a day like day 4 MCG.

If all goes well, I expect him to play a big role in England in 6 months.

Was meant as a critique for Shoaib not Bumrah.

@subshakerz Shoaib's problem was his own ego. He never wanted to compromise on his speed.
Steroids, excess protein supplements and heavy gym work are still haunting him today with knee problems.

Yes. His runup for example was a complete ego trip and waste of energy since I saw him generate the same pace from a shorter runup. But he said 'a plane needs to runway to take off' or some rubbish like that.

Bumrah was worldclass between 2018 to 2022 but I wouldn't have necessarily rated him much ahead of Cummins.

The last year since returning from his stress fracture injury and with the WC 2023 especially has seen him go from the complete bowler to a new level of swing, pace and control mastery. I recall him swinging it like a hoop in the opening overs of WC games on batting wickets. That isn't normal worldclass bowling, it is something else. And he has carried that form since.

It's his wrist.

Ponting on Bumrah: "Probably the best series of fast bowling I've ever seen"

"No doubt, it's probably the best series of fast bowling I've ever seen. Yes, they had good conditions, the fast bowlers, for most of this series. But when you watched him (Bumrah) bowl compared to anyone else in the series, he made batting look so much harder,” Ponting said.

“There's a lot of quality batting in that Australian top-order as well but he made all of them at different times look silly,” he added.

This was as good a fast bowling as I have ever seen since I have been around cricket fields." - Mark Waugh

“Everyone thought Jasprit Bumrah would be a massive threat, but I don’t think anyone thought he could bowl to the level he has bowled this series,” Waugh said.

-----------------------------------

Glad to be able to see it live. I have not seen anyone bowling at this level. I rated Bumrah very high before this series, but I did not expect him to bowl at this level as well. Series would have probably a whitewash and one sided in his absence. Indian team was poor. It was Bumrah against Aus.

I would have loved to see him bowl on the last test, because that was the most pacer friendly conditions in series and match was in balance. Without that 32 wickets at 13 at SR of 28. Not bad at all.

I hope India’s batsmen make enough runs in the England series to give Bumrah a shot at bowling two full innings per match. Given the current state of our batting at the moment, I’m not convinced we won’t encounter a couple of innings defeats.
