Lets understand one thing, that experienced side doesn't just look better, in South Africa, it IS better.

The shorter the format the smaller the gap between the top most players and the lesser ones. The batsman friendly tracks, short boundaries, inability of the best bowlers to bowl more than four overs(mostly in 2-3 spells!!) etc make for the kind of play where great batting skills are not at such a great premium.

The shifting of the IPL from India to South Africa changed that.

The conditions in South Africa are not as batsman friendly as they were at home. Thus you need to have a good game to be able to sustain. The jumping out like a mad man and swinging the bat like a chopper's blade that made the likes of Asnodkar and Uthappa such hot shot T-20 batsmen was exposed for what it was - poor batting which will not work under unforgiving conditions.

With batting like that, even the bowlers got "equated" (for want of a better word). The Manpreet Goni's were as likely to get a wicket as the better bowlers and the spinners were best kept in the dug out. That too has changed in South Africa.

Go back to India next year and see the scores go back to ten an over, the Uthappa's and Asnodkars to again warm the ****les of the electronic media's heart (they are tearing their hearts out at not being able to scream for dropping the old foggies) and the spinners be banished to the benches.:)
Bit harsh on the spinners. Mishra, Warne and Chawla all made it into the IPL's top ten most valuable bowlers last time round. I guess it was the offies who really suffered- not one in the top sixteen.

Truly bizarre captaincy from Warne today. Giving Trivedi three overs, going for 33 runs, while Munaf only bowls one for three? Morkel looked excellent and wasn't bowled out. Even Raut was given an over which got smashed.

Very strange indeed.

This Deccan innings resembled something from last year's IPL. Lots of sixes and fours were hit, with nobody getting to a 50, yet the team finished with a total of 165 for seven. Dwayne Smith batted like there's not much left to play for, hitting four sixes (the others hit as many together) and finishing with 47. The pace bowlers were rendered redundant, with Morne and Sidd bowling no more than three each, while Munaf only got one. Sidd was the only one getting a wicket from among them, while the other six were taken by- you guessed it. Warne was taken for loads of runs, but picked up a wicket at the end. While there were no massive contributions, there were several tiny but telling contributions from Gilchrist, Suman, Symonds and Vaas. The fielding was below-par, with some misfields (including a Gateway), a loose throw and a dropped catch.

Yusuf Pathan led with the ball. Finished with three wickets depsite going for over eight. Ravi Jadeja went for fewer than seven, and took two wickets, those of Rohit Sharma and Andrew Symonds.

Rajasthan Royals have lost another match due to horrendous batting-
  • They depend a lot on Graeme Smith, who's struggling for form.
  • They depend even more on Yusuf Pathan, who doesn't last long, with his tendency to hit everything for a six.
  • Carsledine hasn't yet settled in the team.
  • Asnodkar finally comes good, but is run-out in a chaotic manner.
  • Naman Ojha is out for a first-ball duck in the last match and he's down at four.
  • Ravindra Jadeja, with little over zero striking power, is expected to rescue them in a high-score chase.
  • Abhishek Raut, a specialist batsman, comes in at eight all the time, and does nothing when needed.
  • They're an assembly of (predominantly) T20 specialists who won't fit into a Test team.
  • They gave away four wickets to Rohit Sharma.
  • All their batting woes began after they axed Mohammed Kaif.

Asnodkar didn't come good, tbf. Looked absolute poo.
He gave a catching chance and was run out in a chaotic manner, but still he was better than in most of his previous innings. His last two outings were a lot better than the rest.

What's your opinion on Abhishek Raut? The team isn't getting anything out of him, the way they play him.

Haven't really seen enough to comment one way or the other. When the top order not only fails, but eats up deliveries and then fails, it doesn't matter who they have coming in at that position.

The Wheel is Forever
Things are getting very heated in the KKR camp, with Ajay Jadeja now echoing the Fake IPL Player's comments regarding clear divisions in the team. And everyone, including all the players, current and former, seems to think Buchanan is useless.

DC is getting closer to a semis place, while RR lost another one making their task more difficult. RR should try to win 2 of its remaining 3 games as it NRR is not that great

From what I can see from the scorecard, the bowlers were not used up well by Warne. Unless Munaf had to go off the field, I can't see why he would get only 1 over to bowl! May be it's time to play Atul in and strengthen the batting a little by getting in Henderson or Dimi [if he is still around]

And whats happened to Rohit, he is picking up a lot of wkts!! Smith played another insane inning for DCs

Asnodkar is a joke. His attempts to blast the cover of the ball with complete disregard to a simple word (but not so simple skill) called timing are pathetic.

Once upon a time in rural Twenty20

Posted by Jamie Alter 2 days, 17 hours ago in Miscellaneous

The rural community remodeled as the fictional village Champaner in the 2001 Academy Award-nominated Hindi film Lagaan is set to actually host a cricket tournament. No, this won’t be a real-life battle against high taxes between peasants in a barren village and their oppressive British rulers. Instead, in keeping with times, it’s going to be called the Kutch Premier League, planned along the lines of the IPL, and will feature eight local teams vying for the tag of Twenty20 champs in an arid corner of Gujarat.

Rajnal, 50 kilometers from Champaner's inspiration Kunaria, will play host to teams with names like Wagad Royal Challengers and Kutch Gladiators, owned by former Indian Test offspinner Rajesh Chauhan. The other teams are owned by local businessmen, who paid Rs 50,000 (US$ 1,017) for each. Running the show is the Ratnal Sport Club, which auctioned the teams. There are even 24 icon players out of a pool of 150 auctioned on May 1. Raking in the top amount was allrounder Nirav Pandya, for whom Bhuj Black Hills paid Rs 20,000 (US$ 407).

Each game will be a day fixture and telecast on local cable television, though hopefully without DLF maximums and Citi moments of success. Local steel company Nilkanth Steel owns the title sponsorship. Add a dash of glamour in the form of popular Gujarati actress Hemali Shejpal, and this is one proper shindig.

The winner will pocket Rs 1.5 lakh (US$ 3,050) in cash and a trip to Canbis County Cricket Club in Kenya, which has a large Gujarati population.Doing a rustic take on Lalit Modi, event planner Trikam Ahir said the tournament’s intention was to provide a platform for local players as well as “good entertainment for locals” during the summer vacation. The times they are a-changin’.

Yup.........looks pretty bad..............I wonder why the usually overactive public relations team of KKR look a bit stranded in the middle of the pitch??

@Sirdj

Avoid such sweeping statements. It was some lunatic who killed his son because he was watching cricket when the lunatic wanted to sleep. I am pretty sure there are evn worse lunatics in every country.

Shame Sri Lanka haven’t selected Vaas for the WC. He, Malinga, Mendis, Murali, that’s a bloody good bowling attack there.

Kolkata going to take the brave decision and drop their captain? 9 gameS, 91 runs @ 10.11 (S/R 86.66). That is shocking.
