The loss situation, if it can be called a loss, is misunderstood, misrepresented & blown out of proportion. The SLC owes various parties 25mn USD, most of which is owed to the central bank & 3mn to ICC. for that we have two new ground and a bunch of refurbishment at other grounds. however, the SLC is due to get 25Mn from the ICC for the world cup coverage. So i don't see any real financial concern.

they are money minded but I don't think this decision has much to do with money. If they wanted money the easiest way is to sell you soul to the IPL. But they've done something quite contrary to that.

The thing is SL is still regarded as bit of minnow basher/ backyard bully type side. And this has sort of created a situation where we will always be considered not quite an elite team. the way to get over this is to either win a world cup or successfully tour England/Aus/SA. And we get very little opportunities to play in those countries, SLC probably want us to make the best of this tour so that we can at least get more tours in the future and hopefully change international opinion.

Withdrawing their players from the IPL comes accross as more of a bargaining bid to get more money than anything else tbh.

If they were really thinking in terms of the tests to England, they would not have signed the No Objection certificate for the participation of players in the IPL. Also they raise the issue of Malinga playing with an injury. He has been having the same complaint about the knee for a while now and yet it did not stop them from playing him in the WC. Why raise the issue now and not before the IPL started?

I think the link posted above by Edged&Taken seems an indication that money was indeed exchanged.

Yup. I suppose I'm a cynical bastard, but that is what I had always assumed it to be, right from the outset.
