I can't believe that a team Gilly skippers will come sliding with a loud squeal and the smell of burning rubber into the playoffs AGAIN at the last minute. That would be too good to be true.

Whatever it takes!!!
lol @ cricinfo naming their article tribute to Shane Warne's retirement as "Shane Warne has left the building".. Obviously they think he is cricket's HBK.. :)

Paul Valthaty's last match. It's good to see his bowling come good in the IPL. He's not had loads of wickets, but in fewer chances, he's done slightly better than Praveen Kumar, without bowling a maiden over. While his batting is far from perfect, he can make it as a multi-skilled player in the T20 side, although he's got loads of ground to cover to be even a fringe player for anything longer. He's been approached by the Sri Lankan Premier League, and the BCCI hasn't meddled in this offer, so that will help a lot. He may be a good choice as Irfan's immediate replacement.

A serious T20 prospect, though, is Sreenath Aravind. He's done very well in the IPL, following up his good SMAT record, unlike most other SMAT heroes who've struggled and faded away in the IPL. T20-ready seam-up bowlers for India are few and far between, so Aravind has a shout as a T20 bowler. Definitely better than Mithun.

WOW

Punjab v Deccan at Dharamsala, May 21, 2011

Kolkata v Mumbai at Kolkata, May 22, 2011

Mumbai wont qualify for playoffs , Punjab will destroy Deccan minus Sangakarra at Dharamshala, They have superior NRR also. Whereas chances of Mumbai winning 'away' game that too against strong side like KKR are very low.

Have so much respect for Preity Zinta now, she didnt lose her faith in team and congrats to sponsors who supported Kings in tough times.

Had Dhawan played that innings before the West Indies selection,he would probably been in the ODI squad.

Just out of curiosity, who actually supports an IPL side and who just watches it?

In IPL 1 I kind of supported KKR because they had Hodge and Ponting, but I never really got that attached and have basically been drifting along. I have been wanting to support a team, but none has really really appealed to me :(

Either way, I wanted to buy an IPL t-shirt (just 'cause I'm cool like that) so I got a Kings XI Punjab t-shirt because it was the best looking.

I support IPL teams largely for a few Indian players. For instance, I was a serious supporter of Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals (actually, all four North/West teams) for the first three seasons, then Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders (also Bangalore and Mumbai) this time around. I support any team with promising young Indian players or top India stars (or fringe players), or teams that have a strong Indian player base.

Not surprisingly, I felt that Deccan's 2009 win was the start of a dark period for the Indian scene, with the Indian team knocked out of the World T20 (which was sad) and then the same Deccan side knocked out in the league stage of the Champions' League (which made me glad). Much as Chennai Super Kings are popular, I never liked them much as they hinged too much on overseas players- maybe less so now, but when a T20 misfit like Doug Bollinger or an occasional filler bowler for other teams like Albie Morkel is so critical to their success, it's disappointing. Tamil Nadu, home to the Chennai Super Kings, has the best T20/OD base in the whole country. I don't hate them like Deccan Chargers or 2008-10 KKR, but I'm not a serious supporter.

I don't find too many India prospects in Mumbai Indians, save Rohit, Bhajji and Zaheer (over seasons), but I am very much a Mumbai person, and a supporter of the Mumbai team, and wish to see them carry their dominating success over the years into the IPL.

That's my story. Ultimately, I don't support a franchise like a Man-U fan. I support India.

Punjab are ****ing piss weak. To lose that game to Deccan when a playoffs spot was on the line is awful. Really is.

Meanwhile there have been plenty of useless matches in the IPL, but tonight's two games are actually relatively interesting. It will determine who sits where in the top 4, which matters as the top 2 get a second chance (as they should).

It's hard to support one particular team. A lot of people I know were born in one city, did their schooling in another, married someone from a different city, etc...I'm sure you get my drift. It's really hard to support one particular team in such a case. Most people just end up supporting their favourite players, favourite team owners, or Mumbai for Tendulkar.

I only watched one IPL game live this season - Delhi vs Deccan in Hyderabad. There was a huge group of vociferous Deccan Chargers fans next to me(dressed up in DC colours, flags et al). But guess who got the loudest cheer? Virender Sehwag. In fact, this group of fans actually started cheering for Delhi as Sehwag started playing well. Pretty amusing and perfectly illustrates the point made above.
