**Official** Indian Domestic Season 2013/14

The advantage of having foreign players will be incremental, if not drastic. When the Indian frontline players are away, the standard of the Ranji Trophy falls to sub-IPL levels. Getting foreign players into teams when they are not playing for their national sides will add quality- there won't be easy runs/wickets/lead-pinches then.

A tweaked version of the zonal league system is where the super league doesn't have the top two teams per zone- but the top eight teams from all over the country, on points alone. To get more points, teams will have to win, and win big. You may even end up with something more skewed towards a particular zone, but this time, it will be earned. Teams have to play to win to make the Super League.
And this is why your idea won't happen unfortunately...but I do like your idea.

The first preview for the forthcoming Ranji Trophy has just been put up. Once again, some killjoy mocks an Indian cricketer's fielding. Karan Sharma is not a poor fielder, at least not as poor as Ash-Ish these days. Expecting Saurashtra to make it big this time will be asking for a little too much. I hope Madhya Pradesh has a good season, which will depend on Ishwar Pandey's performance- him running through teams will help his team. Likewise Rajasthan, who have some useful players in their unit, notably Pankaj Singh and Ashok Menaria.

Ball's seaming around making Joginder and Patel look much better than they actually are. It's such a typical Ranji game, seaming wicket, medium pacers running through the sides.

Thank **** Mumbai at least leveled the score.

This is Lahli, which had matches like this one, which ended early in the third day. Outright results are guaranteed here, and given Haryana's feeble batting, often in favour of the visiting team.

Haryana are taking this a little too far, by playing five seamers. Nobody turns the ball in this side. They need to fix their batting, instead, which is flimsy and wobbly, and that won't happen if wicketkeepers continue to open the innings.

There's more to Tendulkar's last domestic match- it also features Ajay Jadeja on the other side- one of the heroes from the 1990s, albeit mostly in ODIs.

Zaheer seriously looks so much fitter. Sending them down at around 135. Bowling way too short at the moment though.

Umesh Yadav has taken only one wicket, which is not good news. Shrikant Wagh, on the other hand, has scalped four, and may help his cause for ODI selection, since he's already doing well in limited-overs cricket.

Rishi Dhawan was dismissed on 89 off 85 balls. Hopefully he'll also take a few wickets and HP wins. While HP is a weak team in a weak league, if he can take his team into the knockouts, he's done something significant. In his interests as an aspiring India cricketer, however, he should move to a stronger team in a stronger league, to develop as a player. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab can be places where he can try for selection.

Mandeep Singh keeps his Ranji/FC record strong with another fifty. He's getting plenty in the North Zone, which is a lot more valuable, like Rahane's 50 in green-top Lahli.

Rajkot is dull, flat and uninspiring. Saurashtra may be pinching a lead again.

Zaheer looks good. His fastest was 144k. In other news Baba Aparajit scored 200, what a great start he has had in domestic

Hate Rajkot. Rajasthan picked just the one seamer in Pankaj Singh and he's gone wicketless as expected. Such a **** pitch and Jaydev Shah still averages <30 on it. It's a joke how he's still playing FC.

Rajkot, Pune, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, the odd ground in Himachal, now Indore- flat-track bore fests. Makes the runs scored by Rahane on lively Lahli a lot more relevant.

In other news, Ishwar Pandey rips through Railways to take seven of nine wickets to fall. Hopefully this will translate into a win for MP. Elsewhere, Rishi Dhawan, fresh from a quickfire 89 runs, took five wickets for 57, and is establishing himself as the next best all-rounder after Bhuv Kumar, but won't be enough to win the game for HP. He won't get noticed if he continues to play for this weak team, so a switch to stronger MP will help him.

Already Gujarat has crushed Vidarbha by an innings and one run. Unfortunately for Vidarbha, Umesh Yadav picked up a single, solitary wicket. He's taken too many breaks to be in form. Vidarbha's batting, as we know, isn't any good- it's dollar height. Saurrashtra coming closer to an innings win over Raj, Day4.

Maharashtra, Punjab, Saurashtra win. Sachin Chaudhari takes eleven wickets. Bhajji misses a big ten by one. All ties of Group A have results.

Hilarious that Bhajji declared thinking that he had got a fifty and then later came to know that he was actually on 49 not out due to a scoreboard error and was frustrated about it..
