**Official** Indian Domestic Season 2013/14

I do hope Kedar Jadhav gets his ODI cap. With Pujara not likely to play too many ODIs (Pandey and Manoj Tewari too), and the actual ODI specialists so far being far from good enough, he should be a certainty in the ODI XI for a few years.

Happy for Binny, for people who think he is not good as a bowler, watch him bowl in the 4 day domestic games. He has himself claimed that he is a limited bowler in the shorter formats, and its quite true, he's a decent 4th seamer in the longer format. It'll be interesting to see how he performs in tests(if he gets selected). But my only concern is, if Binny has been given an opportunity, than why not Rishi Dhawan? If we are looking at pace bowling all rounders, Rishi Dhawan is the best we've got.

Fair, Rishi Dhawan is a better choice, but he's still a little too young, and it's his misfortune that he's had to play for an under-performing Group C team. He's done well in the IPL, but other all-rounders such as Binny, Bucky and Bhatia have done better. I feel he's missed out because he's in a Group C team, and most selections, even at Irani level, are loaded against that tier.

Bhatia, though, may be a better bowler than Binny, to finish off larger stocks, while Bhuvneshwar, though not tipped as an all-rounder, is a very capable batsman, especially in Indian FC events.

India A on their way to finishing the first, drawn match against Australia A.

Naman Ojha is ready for Test cricket. Dhoni can take a break and concentrate on limited-overs events. Good to see Tiwary get some runs abroad, even on a flat deck. Not so good to see Rayudu getting runs, as he's just an average batsman blocking the way for a proper all-rounder or a batsman who's actually good enough, or a fifth bowler who can take more wickets than the overworked four bowlers in overtime.

Umesh had a rather disappointing game. Fair, it's a flat track, fair he's got little to no (Jasprit is only two seasons old, and there was no fifth bowler) support, but more is expected from someone who's got all the right attributes. He needs to play more active cricket to get into some form, so that India can turn back to him once their slower bowlers fail again on a deck that doesn't seam excessively.

The other Ojha is more or less finished as a Test prospect. With 78 matches done, he's still struggling on a pitch that doesn't turn. Tough luck replacing Ashwin in the Test side. Being the most experienced bowler in either side, figures of /165 are not good at all. Dhawal still has a little more in him, and is a little more accurate than Umesh, but on a flat deck, he can't get you more than one lucky wicket. That's why India turns to Umesh and Aaron so often. On the same flat deck, Dhawal can get some useful runs, so that can help the team's balance.

Jasprit is still raw. Ripped through Ranji batting units, but struggled to make a dent in IPL sides, and now, though he's got five wickets, he bowled 40 overs, which is excessive, and bowled 13 no-balls. We'd prefer Umesh getting those five wickets, from a Test match point of view.

Rasool should make the XI in the next game, in place of one batsman. It doesn't matter who scored how many runs, because it was clearly not enough when they conceded 534 runs when they came out to bowl, so one of them should be dropped.

Masher, who conceded a century for one wicket in the previous game, is getting his wickets in this one for a lot less. In a good run of form so far. Can't say that about the other two pacers, Anureet and Jaspreet, who are repeatedly overstepping. It will be a while before either are India prospects at all. What's disappointing is that a senior bowler like Mishra still keeps overstepping. Already ignored by selectors because of age bias, these no-balls won't do him any good.

Mishra pulls things back with his third wicket. Make no mistake, he's a lot more experienced than the whole Australia A team, man for man, so it's hardly a competition of equals.

Now it's Umesh Yadav's turn to frustrate the bowling from the tail end. 70 not out. Mishra scored his small but useful 36, and India A have the lead at 474/9. Then again, it's a flat pitch on which India A themselves couldn't bowl Aussie A out for less than 400, and their spin duo of Lyon and Boyce are hardly impressive.

Anybody want a separate India A thread?

India A, having restricted Aussie A to 252 for 7, are now struggling. Carrying three one-day misfits, they are dragging their feet in chase of this total, and while the bowlers did well (excluding their OD specialist JDU), their batting has been poor. Unsurprisingly, the OD strugglers have let the team down.

India A lost that previous game, despite a fighting knock by Sanju Samson, often touted as an immediate India prospect. He now plays a little hand in their win against South Africa A. The top scorers, though, were Manoj Tiwary and (surprisingly) Manish Pandey. Tiwary is the immediate ODI prospect, and also in line for a place in Tests.

The win was, however, largely due to the effort of Dhawal Kulkarni, who took five wickets to wrap up the South African reserves for 70 runs less. Two short of 50 ODIs, Kulkarni has maintained impressive figures, with a strike rate of exactly 30 and an average of 26. Seems good for ODIs, but not T20Is, where he struggles to take wickets. The other ODI specialists, Mohit and JDU, were poor. Akshar Patel is hardly a spinner.

Why do Indian batsmen **** themselves when there's swing. Yeah it was hooping around, but losing that many to Binny in a day is just pathetic.
