Taufeeq doesnt even look liek lasting and I hope Afridi will curb his natural aggression a little..Next session will be crucial for pak chances in teh test and Afridi & Taufeeq need to survive!!

i really dont see the point of playing taufeeq, he may be a very accomplished first class batsmen, but in recent tests has proved he struggles against the new ball, now far b it from me to criticise but rnt openers sposed to play the new ball, salman (the guy who can get a maiden century against australia in australia must b able to do something good?) for the 3rd test please Mr woolmer.

I've never rated taufeeq, his technique is well suspect..he exposes his leg stump and shuffles forward with bat away from body.. mind you I've only seen him play against India in Pak.. I rate him and Farhat about the same. Decent FC players but not internationa standard howevr I believe he did well against NZ in Pak.

he has a certain characteristic in his batting, that many of pakistan's greater batsmen ie- Youhana, dont seem to produce, its a very important one especially when opening, that is that he knows where his off stump is. In one particular inns in Sri Lanka against Australia he made 87 iirc, but it was more tha manner in which he played the likes of gilespie, Mcgrath, Lee that caught my eye. Countless nuber of time he had the bowlers grimacing at how he was able to leave balls that werent too far away from his stump, balls that other pakistani batsmen would no doubt have fished at. From then onwards i have been a supporter of his, and he backed this up again in South Africa later in that year when he controlled the Pollock, Ntini and co. when no one else really had much clue, iirc he scored 135 and 67 in the same match, and at one time had tha chance of bringing up two centuries in the same day. Since than quite suprisingly he has been in and out of the team, not really getting a regular run eg: played last odi against India at lahore, came in for 2nd VB series final against Australia.
It is against him that he plays for pakistan, a country where one bad series rules you out of the next 5. Openers in particular must be given extended runs as their jobs are often fought with more danger than most, you dont have to be playing against a good bowling attack when opening to lose your wicket, the new hard seem, doing a bit off the pitch, is all it could take, and as soon as the balls gets old your team piles on 500-600 while you sit and watch. So i think it is a bit hard to critise the likes of Farhat Umar and even a guy like Nazir, they must be given time

Brainless batting by Afridi. Stupid pull shot ending up for 4 at 3rd man. Next ball, similar shot lobbed up into the air.

Afridi C Sachin B Pathan 29 (21 balls)
