Just watching it on Cricinfo is exciting, imagine how great it would be to be there watching this. I guess not so good for India supporters! But you still have to appreciate this innings, amazing batting.

Yeah true, easy for me to say, isn't it? I just have to hope Afridi isn't in this sort of form when NZ next come up against him. Because although I'd love to say I would still appreciate that sort of batting I probably wouldn't!

If he did this against Australia, I would love it. Only if we still won though, of course.

No seriously. It is great stuff. But it is pitiable for India. It is that Chetan Sharma six magnified ten times :)

BTW, whats the highest number of sixes in a single ODI innings ?

13.1 Khan to Shahid Afridi, one run, on the middle and leg, defended to
short midwicket, dangerous quick single taken, Sehwag fails to hit
the stumps at the bowler's end and Afridi survives.

:-O :-O :-O

Metaphorical... :D

11, I think. By Jayasuria.

Also, the boundries at Kanpur seem pretty small to me. Not more than 65 m any side, max. I think this also has played a big role in the abundance of sixes and fours.

Whatever it takes!!!
Point is, he is a lot more consistent against India than the other sides. It doesn't take Sherlock to figure out why. It is because our new ball attack is one dimensional. The only decent new ball bowler we have is Zaheer and that is because he has got a bit of pace, can bowl yorkers, bouncers and slower ones (although the accuracy rate will be lower than most of the other new ball bowlers) and can also bowl around the wicket for variety. You need to be flexible, as a new ball bowler, to survive against guys like Afridi in flat tracks and for me, the Indian new ball bowlers are extremely rigid and one dimensional. Why couldn't Balaji bowl around the wicket more and simply slant it away from the right handed Afridi after pitching the ball within the stumps? That would make hitting on the on side very risky.

Not trying to pick a fight, but India didn`t score many sixes at all...
I was going to say that too. Only two by Mongia but then all the four big hitters failed to score.

Dravid and Kaif are not known for sixers.

I was talking about Afridi's sixes. :)

Some of them have been pretty close calls, and in another ground, would likely have landed inside the rope.

And than there is the mental thing. You are more likely to go over the top on a smallish ground - and succeed.

Afridi gone attempting a defensive stroke.
