Insanity.

In the history of Test cricket, has there been anything to rival what Bairstow has done over the last three Tests, or more specifically five innings'? Four centuries and another 70 not out, all of his fourth innings knocks match-winning ones, scored at a rate of knots, and if you want to throw it in for context, there was the common view he shouldn't be in the side at the start of the year, and even after Lord's four weeks ago.
vvs laxman and dravid partnership to beat peak aussie team. infamous kolkata test. after enforcing the follow on, they won from that position. thats the best ever.

Incredibly depressing result. Being ahead for 3 days but getting wrecked in under 4 sessions to lose is the stuff nightmares are made of.

But my word this England side is playing some incredible cricket. Nothing makes sense anymore. Too soon to say if they've revolutionized the game or it's just a streak of freaky results. Both NZ and India had terrible 3rd innings with the bat, and both bowled awfully at times. However that is in no small part down to the pressure put on them by England, the batters especially. Bowlers and captains just are not used to this sort of aggression in Tests, and they've been clueless on how to respond. Root and Bairstow are batting on a whole other level now too. This may not be sustainable once (if?) they come back down to Earth, and once teams figure out how to bowl in the 4th innings again.

India need a lot of soul searching. There is definite scarring since the two SA tests as well, and the team seems to lack the fire they had under Shastri's coaching. Dravid hasn't really impressed as coach yet, Rohit has not played a game since becoming captain, and Kohli is ****ing useless. Just acts like a prat for the cameras when a wicket falls and has been a non presence otherwise. Real lack of leadership in this group atm.

Has Johnny made any technical changes recently? His current form is great to see, but if he hasn't made any changes feel like he's gone be getting bowled through the gate again soon.

More to do with confidence i would imagine. Perhaps the game was there but backing from the coaches has helped. Banter aside i don't think this will last

His odi record suggests he is at an optimum output when he is batting with freedom he has averaged almost 50 with 100 odd strike rate in odis that is AB levels.
For too long he tried to conform to what test SR should be and he's not at his fluent best with a standard test SR.

I would suggest England give Butler another go in test cricket and ask him to bat with his odi freedom I am pretty sure he's another bloke that's can average 40 odd if he is striking at 90+

No, he had a glaring technical flaw that made clean bowling him as easy as getting into Pamela Anderson's pants. Being more agressive helped his game but it shouldn't solve a basic issue like that.

He is definitely made adjustments as you could see from the India test. It was not bang-bang like it was against NZ. He played out very tough times and spells and made hay when the sun literally shined on his side. He was beaten several times on the inside edge too but the bounce of this track definitely helped him. Remains to be seen how he goes but it is definitely telling that a player can be at their best when they are mentally positive in their approach to the game, irrespective of their technique.

Coming in lower down when some of the lacquer has gone & the ball doesn't move off the straight quite so much seems to help in that respect. He averages 28.06 when coming in at 3 or 4, but 38.42 when coming in 5 and lower.

Just hoping if Pope tanks at 3 the the B Boys (Bob, Baz and Ben) resist the temptation to move him up.

Kohli back to the pack. His average is now just under 50. Not nearly as good as past indian greats(who played against far superior bowling attacks). Overpaid with a generally unlikeable on field demeanor
