Worst team was the one that toured in 2011, not this. This team gave a fair fight in foreign conditions.Has to go down in history as the worst no. 1 team to tour England. India were disgustingly poor! Shows how the rankings are being manipulated these days.
India dont deserve a 5 match test tour of England at all!
Congrats to the English but in fairness this Indian team is a bunch of jokers, barring perhaps Virat there are no world class test cricketers available in India!
lol "perhaps"?Has to go down in history as the worst no. 1 team to tour England. India were disgustingly poor! Shows how the rankings are being manipulated these days.

England have the worst away record in world test cricket in the last few years so chill out .... this series was competitive, unlike the 4-0 thrashing you had in India. Plus, you lost a Test match to Bangladesh so chill out again ..Has to go down in history as the worst no. 1 team to tour England. India were disgustingly poor! You mean they are like the Scotland football team, a plucky defeat but a defeat is a defeat.at least India have some fight away from home now see the recent SA series.
Come off it, India weren't that bad.You mean they are like the Scotland football team, a plucky defeat but a defeat is a defeat.
Can you back up that claim with some hard stats?England have the worst away record in world test cricket in the last few years so chill out .... this series was competitive, unlike the 4-0 thrashing you had in India. Plus, you lost a Test match to Bangladesh so chill out again ..
Soon as the ball stops swinging England Test team turn into a minnow, at least India have some fight away from home now see the recent SA series.
This is just sad. I am getting annoyed by Indian officials trumpeting India as best in the world by virtue of 'being competitive' after yet another series loss abroad. Usually these occasions call for a bit of humility. Being the 'best' is a hollow title if you side is incapable of winning any series of worth away from home.
The part about being proud of losing series is true. India shouldn't be happy with being a little bit competitive. Nearly half the cricket fans in the world live in India. Also it's the biggest sport in the country whereas most other countries it's a second tier sport. By all rights India should be dominating everyone, all the time. Of course it's not that simple but I don't even think you can call this team no. 1 when the ranking is based on bullying sides who are touring unfamiliar Indian conditions and bullying minnows away. This is just sad. I'm sorry, but India are not New Zealand or Zimbabwe that they can take pride in 'being competitive' nor are they going toe to toe with an indomitable side. India have already been competitive since 2001 away so what's the big deal?
The fact is, they deliberately built up a hype about this year being the year that Kohli's side proves itself. Not they have fallen flat on their face.
My guess is that Kohli wanted his team to be recognized as one of the great teams in test history. Not all-time great level like the 80s WI or 2000s Australia's, but more as one of the standout sides like Imran's Pakistan, Vaughn's England or even Graeme Smith's SA. But those sides actually had some results in their favor. Imran won in England and India and drew against a strong WI side. Vaughn won in SA and beat the Aussies in 05. Smith won in Australia and England twice and had a great subcontinent record.
My prediction was that Kohli's side would draw in SA, win in England and narrowly lose in Australia. So far, they have been far below expectations. England was actually the low-hanging fruit. The fact that they seem satisfied to be competitive against this weak England team is itself maddening.
And then Shastri wants to claim this side as better than any modern Indian side. Well, India from 2001 - 2010 managed to draw in Australia and SA and draw/win in England, against arguably better sides than today.
If you want to claim to be the best, know that it is only because the rest of the world is weak, not because your side is that good. At best, India is just keeping the seat warm until SA, Australia or who knows even Pakistan get their act together and start producing real results away from home. 15 years from now, nobody will remember this Kohli side.

I definitely think they're on the right track though, but being satisfied with mediocrity is not the way to stay on that right track.
