Where is that gentle being who derived pleasures from Cook's batting. She must be undergoing multiple orgasms!
Well we are pretty sure he's a guy so you were actually hitting on a dude. But more love in the world is always better even if you like it up the shitter.

Can barely imagine a more glorious day of cricket. Rivals day 1 at the MCG in 2010.

This is why you sit through the shite.

Actually no, you're really not at all funny and there are other forums that are much better suited to your puerile brand of humour

Missed the entire day as was at work. Wish i had done what I was tempted to do last night and thrown a sickie got on the train and gone.

This is 3rd in my list of great days I reckon behind that MCG day and Day 1 of Trent Bridge when we bowled the crime out before lunch.

All incredible days in their own ways, couldn't pick from them tbh. This just felt like watching folklore being created in real time.

India should declare

Anderson should never be allowed to overtake McGrath
Heh.

I'm a huge Anderson fan so him being the all time greatest quick in terms of wickets taken would be amazing, but I've got to admit that I do love the symmetry of the greatest ever having the (now joint) most number of wickets.

So, aside from Cook and Chappell, G. are there any other batsmen of substance who’ve managed tons in their first and last test innings?

I don’t think Cook got it in the first innings of his first Test. Pretty sure it was his second. Could be wrong

He got a 50 and ton in his first Test though, same here in the last

I wish people called A Cook would stop leaving me but they do it on a high so I’ll forgive it

Played Cooky. What a sportsman

All you have to do is watch Essex next season. He isn't retiring from cricket! Some woman even had a sign saying, ''cricket will miss you''. He could, for all we know, have a ten year Trescothick period, a whole new chapter to his career, blasting county attacks like Banger still does.

Mate, I love watching England more than almost anything and can barely find time. I live on gods own peninsula (Wirral), when the **** am I going to be watching him play for Essex?

Fine, i will do my best, but I’d be hoping Cook is on the losing side.

Andy Cook hasn’t retired either, in reference to my earlier post. But he’s left me. And that’s what Alastair has done.

Does jimmy has the biggest reputation jumps in 5 year blocks for any cricketer?

In 2008 he was possibly around 200-250 for best pacers ever by 2013 he had to be around30-40 he may now end up as possibly a top 10.Just incredible how he got better and better

Steve Smith was being voted one of the worst cricketers of all time by cw in 2012 (even though the votes were dumb he was still a bit of a joke). Next five years have been arguably the best 5 year stretch by any batsman since Bradman.

Perhaps you are right but I am still fascinated by Jimmy's continuous climb up the ladder at this point he is definitely past Gillispie, WIllis, Roberts and I am even considering putting him ahead of Waqar, Polly, Holding something I would not even have givin a thought around 2015.
