36How many is he going to get fj?
Think I'd settle for that
Openers to average 45+ with 7000+ test runs.
Gavaskar 51.12
G.Smith 48.25
Hayden 50.73
Sehwag 49.34
Boycott 47.72
Langer 45.27
G.Kirsten 45.27
Maybe Cook.
An excellent idea, followed by a silly bat danceWant Cook to hit one from Jadeja straight down the ground for a six.
It's not correct but I was just going with their average on face value so ibviously not all the above were just as openers too.Gordon Greenidge averages 45.10 too as an opener (7488 runs, 19 tons).
Send this via email to the ECB, Ed Smith , James Taylor etcWorst average for an opening batsman in his home country (18+ innings):
17.71 K JENNINGS in Eng
18.19 S Wettimuny in SL
20.54 Javed Omar in Ban
20.95 M Brearley in Eng
23.05 K Powell in WI
23.16 T Franklin in NZ
Record breaker.
Released the pressure on himself and seems a lot more relaxed this test. Almost back to the Cook that we loved scoring runs for us. He knows the time is right to go though as he is the one playing the game and if he says he is done then who is to argue with him. Delighted he goes out having got some runs in his last match though.Cook & G.Kirsten two of the better openers to play in the sub against spinners and Cook is rolling back the years how he shuffles outside the line either sweeping or dead batting . Really pulling on the last resources in this test. Massive respect.
The problem here is they are contradicting themselves completely. Jennings hasn't hit a test fifty in ten games, that's a record for an English opener since the birth of test match cricket. If they are taking a horses for courses policy then why do they only do it on spinning tracks? Why is Jennings a dead cert in Sri Lanka 'cos he can play spin init' when he can't bat full stop in test matches it seems anywhere else. He's had a run of 10 games with Root as captain and averages 17! Ed Smith is a genius!Surely they can't actually be thinking of taking Jennings to Sri Lanka just because they think he can play spin. The guy is shot and it'd be a cruelty persisting with him.
