it's crazy Stokes averages only 33 in tests with the bat. Looks a million bucks when he hits boundaries

He averages just shy of 40 since 2016, sometimes it just takes time to drag the average up after a so-so start.

His technique is what I consider loose and flashy though. Relies on natural talent and a good eye, not really a good recipe for a high average in my view. Even Lara (who was very fluent) had a technique that was way tighter. I can't think of many players with a technique as loose as Stokes averaging more than him tbh

Sehwag wasn't always that loose, only last 3 or 4 years of his career, when he was pretty much in T20 mode even in tests. He had a record streak of 150's IIRC, you don't get that by just being flashy.

Perhaps I'm harsh on Buttler the test cricketer but I still need to be convinced more about his FC/Test hundred making ability.

But this stat pretty much sums up England's batting at the moment.

Whilst small sample size I know, but if we're being fair to Buttler, he's the only lad who's averaged over 40 over the past 12 month for England, next best being Root @ 39.60
