*Official* India Tour of England 2018

If it's a dryish track then Jadeja should be picked, even 90% fit Ashwin will not work. We shouldn't risk a bowler missing much or all of his bowling due to stiffness.
I'd replace Ashwin with Jadeja (if Ashwin wasn't available)

Hopefully India finish this quickly. Don't want the pacers and especially Ashwin bowling too much considering how fragile they are.

Pope is out of his depth at 4 at this level. He should never had been picked to bat 4. He should be batting 6.

England in a heap now. Lucky to make 200 from here. Under no circumstances should Bairstow bat (unless England survive till day 5 session 2 which ain't happening)
It's all fine with these selectors thinking outside the box in test cricket ie Buttler, Rashid and now Pope.

But end of the day the truest form of a cricketer needs some proof they can perform at the highest level. Whilst Pope can say he has had a good season for Surrey (at #6), batting him at 4 because he has the right character is madness when he has rarely had the chance to succeed there at a lower level.

Especially with how close the tests are on top of each other.

Would love to see Bhuvi but can't see you changing the bowling attack.

Willing to cop it re Bumrah

I thought he'd be **** when I first saw his name in the squad for SA. He wasn't great there but he showed glimpses of being dangerous and he's been pretty good in this game. Not a bad start to his career at all.

This might sound a bit ****** but I still think him being good has a lot to do with batsmen not yet being used to his awkward angle and trajectory. Whether this is sutainable is doubtful tstl.

Still, the team management does deserve a lot of credit for giving him these chances over Umesh. I certainly wouldn't have.

Ashwin doesn't look right at all imo. Looks a bit gingerly in his action kinda like he did towards the end of the home season early last year.

Bumrah gets decent movement into the right hand batsman, largely due to his action, much like Ntini used to do. Batsmen don't like being cramped. Been relatively accurate as well for all his awkward action.

He looks like he is fighting through pain.

Absolutely right. You couldn't say that any of these left-field selections have been successful, and maybe there are reasons why they are so rare.

I doubt that there's any proof that the others will be successful. Feels a bit like Aus' batting at times, you can point out issues with any of the options. It's trying to find the least wrong one.

it's crazy Stokes averages only 33 in tests with the bat. Looks a million bucks when he hits boundaries

Batting him at 4 is pretty disgraceful. They hide a player like Buttler at 7 as a specialist bat, yet make Pope ( a number 6) bat at 4. England are just a boys club set up though, it's not run like a proper national side that's for sure (the limited overs sides are however, just not the test team it seems..unless the selectors are really genuinely this inept). So I take all their selections with a pinch of salt, including the captain who should be no where near the captaincy with his lack of nous and lack of leadership skills...oh well

His technique is what I consider loose and flashy though. Relies on natural talent and a good eye, not really a good recipe for a high average in my view. Even Lara (who was very fluent) had a technique that was way tighter. I can't think of many players with a technique as loose as Stokes averaging more than him tbh
