yeah, if a fielder goes near the boundary and its inconclusive the boundary doesn't get given so it shouldn't be different here.

IMO Dhoni should have walked once it became clear that the tv was inconclusive

Why is Dhoni walking following the spirit of the game? The cameras were inconclusive, the umpires make the decision, and the fielder could well have lied ... in which case the fielder would be breaking the spirit of the game.

Exactly. Lara wasn't just making his case, he was the only one on the field who was showing his attitude to the umpires. It was pretty obvious from the look on Rauf's face.
