dravid

Man, i can tell you one thing, you cant compare any batsman with Rahul Dravid, he is the best ever batsman to play cricket. Although he does not have the flair and swash buckling style that players like Tendulkar, Lara and Ponting have he has CLASS. CLass, that too in pure sense.
Can you remember any point in his career when he has been out of form? Tendulkar's been outta form, so has Lara and so has Ponting, but not Dravid.
The innings he played in Jamaica proved that he can hit the ball a long way aswell, man he is a class act.

He's a great player but that's just a ludicrous statement. He's still got a lot to do before he can lay claim to that title.

Does not anyone else feel that Dravid is finding a new niche in ODI cricket as opener? How does this lineup look for the worldcup?

Dravid

It's really great that Dravid is good enough to regularly bat as an opener or a middle-order batsman, but I don't see it happening once Sachin returns. For me, this is our WC lineup:

Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid, Yuvraj, Raina, Dhoni, Pathan, Powar, Bhajji, Munaf, Sreesanth
Reserves: Dhawan/Uthappa, Kaif, Agarkar, VRV/RP

I can certainly see Dravid becoming a regular test opener though if we insist on playing 5 bowlers. We'd have something like this:

Sehwag, Dravid, Laxman, Sachin, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Pathan, Kumble, Bhajji, Munaf, Sreesanth
Reserves: Jaffer/Gambhir, Kaif/Raina, Karthik, RP, VRV/Powar

Why is Sehwag a certainty ? He doesn't deserve to be opening innings. Once Sachin comes I would prefer Pug's lineup. We can play 5 bowlers in Tests because we have a genuine batsmen WK (hopefully) and a decent lower order as long as Kumble is playing.

I don't think he want's him out of the team per se, but rather less of a certainty due to his woeful form. He was probably referring to ODIs, but let's face it, he's been pretty poor in Tests lately too.

Scores since his 254 vs Pakistan:

31, 5, 4, 2, 0, 11, 76*, 6, 0

135 runs in 8 completed innings is pretty terrible. I'm not advocating his sacking though, as I don't think India can do any better than him at this stage. He's a class player.

I'd open Dravid and Sachin in ODIs, and have Sehwag or Kaif, depending on form take up the other middle order slot. I'm very very close to getting sick of Sehwag opening in ODIs. He hasn't been even close to what he was in 2002 for almost 4 years now. I don't reckon its coming back. Plus Sachin and Yuvraj are fine taking up the 5th/6th bowling option, so Sehwag isn't needed there.

Of course this is only ODIs. Tests Sehwag is a must.

That's true, Sehwag is a world-class batsman but he's pretty damn inconsistent.
Uthappa's technique is rather flawed, but I can see Shikhar Dhawan staking a genuine claim to a national call-up this summer.
In that case, I wouldn't mind a Dhawan-Tendulkar pairing at the top if Sehwag performs poorly.
Although Yuvraj, Kaif and Dhoni have all matured immensely as one-day batsmen, I personally think a Dravid-Tendulkar opening pair is a little top-heavy, at least in terms of experience. Not sure about that though.
