Not looking good at the moment.

India gonna have to fire with the bat for sure.
Fire? I'm not too sure they have much firepower with the bat. With Dravid opening, we can't expect too many blazing starts, and apart from Dhoni and Irfan, there are no big-hitting options, given Sehwag has been out of form and may be under more pressure with a slow opening partner and a large total.

this over is a good example of why not to use a part-timer. Sehwag bowled one straight delivery to Lara, then a meatball that got smashed for six in the off-side.
But the "meatball" was a straight delivery...

It wasn't a bad ball. It was just a great shot. Use of the feet and elevation. It's a good example of why Lara is the best player of spin in the world.

True. Dravid hasn't hit a six in ages.

Chasing a big target isn't all about big hitting, you know. Three ballstrikers is a large number for one team.

Harbhajan bowled several straight deliveries, and was a little difficult to get away. Sehwag bowled a fuller delivery that Lara can hit. An average delivery may be made to look bad against him, but Harbhajan wasn't too bad himself.

p.s. Footage is lost even now....TEN Sports, what's happening?

It's not just the sixes, but just using the pace of the new ball and running hard that counts. Not to mention, supporting the faster or more prolific batsman, as Morton supported Gayle. Dravid plays out too many dot balls in the first 15 overs.

The only difference betweent that particular delivery and the balls that Sehwag was bowling is that Lara backed himself further to smash Sehwag for six than Harbhajan. Great as he may be, Lara still has respect for quality bowlers.

I agree that Sehwag is not a reliable 5th bowler, but he's the 6th bowler in this game. India came in with 5 bowlers. It's no slight on Dravid for having to use Sehwag, considering that only one of his 5 has bowled effectively. That said, Agarkar wasn't bad.

I wonder how the West Indian bowlers will fare, since they too are prone to bowling no-balls and wides a few times, but with an out-of-form Sehwag and the rest of the batting lacking strike power, it's difficult to call.

You don't think Dravid can play the Morton role?!

Dravid is 10 times the Morton than Morton is at the moment. There's no sense in having two big hitters playing in tandem at the top of the order. It worked for like 5 minutes for Sri Lanka in 1996.

While Irfan has bowled below expectations and Munaf isn't quite the next best thing since Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee, the biggest disappointment so far is RP Singh. In the start of his career, he's been one of the better ODI bowlers for the team, holding a line and length and bowling at a decent pace. He's struggled in the matches he got during the England series and so far here, and that is a problem. Hopefully we'll see a better performance later in the innings and the series.

Gayle is not only in great form, he's also a very safe batsman given his style of play. He can take it easy, yet the ball stays hit. Sehwag, on the other hand, often forces the pace on most deliveries and takes a lot of risks. Not surprisingly, we find him playing shots beyond him and getting out early, when he isn't dropped. If the other batsman can at least cut out the dot balls or give him the strike more often, it will help. Dravid may be ten times the player Morton is overall, but it comes closer when he's opening the innings.

Munaf gets his first ODI wicket! Mohammed Kaif catches Lara at cover, off a slower Munaf delivery. Big wicket, but the Giant is still out there.

Lara *gone*, Kaif catches him off Munaf. :)

Gayle Scores his 4th 100 against India. They guy loves Indian bowling.

Notice how many singles were pinched through the field placings? The way Gayle is batting, he can hit sixes and fours even with the most defensive fields, so they can't lose too much by placing more men around the bat.

Couldn't be anything other than Crystal getting out then:

a) He was on 123 (old darts adage - 123 never wins)
b) Windies were on 222
c) AA bowling

If the West Indians bowl more wides and no-balls and the Indians win, there's no need to complain, given how many the Indians bowled.

What difference does he make how he scores his runs. I am okay with Singles as long as the batsmen are able to maintain a decent strike rate.
