Hosein is the leading wicket taker in ODI cricket this year and motie is a beast, spin bowling is fine. Issue is that holder is a passable ODI bowler on his best day and joseph is hot and cold. Shepherd isn't good enough for ODI cricket. Bit suprised Odean smith isn't considered over him tbh, started his career much better and did well last time India and the windies played ODI'S.
Agree with all except Joseph. The man’s improved a lot and is their best ODI bowler now easily

Joseph was gun in India last time. Man was clocking 90mph effortlessly & had Indian players in all sorts. WI need to use him as a enforcer not a new ball bowler. Bring back Cottrell probably as left armers are doing great with new ball & with a bit of swing these days.
Agree on Odean Smith he does look like a superior bowling option than Romario. Hossain has done well. Not sold on Motie though.

Will be interesting if Dhawan will make it to 2023 WC. His reflexes are on decline for sure. Dhawan misses a lot of balls that are stump directed. Nor has he been able to play straight. Sides are blocking his square if the wicket strokes while keeping boundary riders.
I don't think he should be in the contention at all. Rahul is much better, just needs to be talked out of sheet anchoring. Shaw should be good backup, don't know where he is. Not much of a fan of Ishan.

Edit: there's Gaekwad too.

Shaw is ultimate wild card. We had Sehwag in 2011 WC at home & Shaw is similar type.
Also had a young Kohli so hopefully Gill gets ready as well & is showing promise now.
Rahul has done well in middle order at 5 & is averaging 60 or so there. Let's see how Dravid goes about the ODI side.

Shaw would be great to have on sc tracks, I definitely won't open with Rahul - no good has ever come out of doing that.

Meh, Shaw has not done much for a while now. Next Unmukt Chand perhaps.

There is only room for a certain number of players in a squad and Shaw has a long way to go to being top tier.

In the past 2 Ipl seasons shaw has made 660 runs at an average of ~30 and a sr of ~155. He also made 827 runs @165 and a sr of 135 in the last full domestic 1 day season he played. Pakiddal and Gaikwad have both had similiar returns in the same period TBH, but shaw's strike rate and ability to make the most of the powerplay is something india could use, particularly in the t20 stuff. This has been said a million times on here already, but a top 3 of rohit/rahul, Ishan/Dhawan/Gaikwad and kohli playing tuk tuk at a sr of 130 or lower just doesn't cut it in the modern age.

It is 50 overs. You need players who can bat long. Against better bowlers, I do not have confidence re Shaw right now. Happy to see him achieve success at international cricket, mind you.

And shaw can't bat long? He has as many list A hundreds as he has 50's and faces 42 balls an innings, assuming that theres a somewhat even distribtuion of balls faced that means he's getting out around the 15th over on average, nothing wrong with that as an opener.

Let him prove himself at the highest level. So far, he has come up awfully short in Australia and testing conditions.

He got shipped over to aus to face starc with a pink ball on a seamer where india where collectively bowled out for 36. This was all while the guy was in a horrible patch of form and not all there mentally, I might add. He did well in the tour games before the 2018 and 2020 series aswell.

Shaw was scary in the powerplays on that SL tour while the Test side was playing in England. He didn’t kick on to make a big contribution but it was really fun to watch him rip into Chameera and co for a while.

Probably would have sealed his spot as a backup opener too but almost whole side got isolated in T20 series there when Krunal got Covid. Was never picked again.
