***Official*** India in Sri Lanka

Rested for the entire series - he is not in the squad.
Was that his doing or the selectors? Seems very weird, don't think that would be tolerated in Australia if Gilchrist was rested for an entire series against New Zealand or something.

You were right about the "game over" bit I am afraid. For any decent team defending 300+ and having the other team at 10/3 and 37/4 it would be game over but India chose just that moment to show the full range of their incompetence; rubbish bowling, weird field placements, comical fielding efforts, dropped catches and a stupid waste of their first review. I am still backing them to pull this one off actually but they certainly know how make an easy win hard.
That's our India though. I've learnt to love it rather than get frustrated by it.

That was a great ball from Ishant. When he bowls like this you can see why the hype machine was in full force about how good he can be. We need to take care of him and keep him fresh because if we do he'll keep improving and his upside is huge.

It was Dhoni's request and quite a reasonable one given his insane schedule since the world cup. He should be nicely rested by now though. I don't know if the rules allow it but if they do I would love to have him back for the third test.

Just to clarify, the BCCI did offer Dhoni to rest this series after he aired his concerns to the media. I believe that squads are not wholly set in stone and teams are in their right to change them for whatever reason.

poor effort from the Sri Lankan tail. 4 wickets in 4 overs. Whats disappointing is that they all seemed to get out to soft dismissals as well

Well done India but there are more than a few problem areas for the next match. India's entire middle order: from Dravid to Karthik scored fewer runs than Sehwag's 201 in the first innings. In fact if you add in the tail-enders you still don't reach 201. So India's batting from 3-11 in two innnings couldn't match Sehwag's first innings.

Kumble's bowling figures of 5-122 are ridiculously flattering too and he looked harmless for most of the match. Wicketkeeping is obviously another huge issue.

The relation between age and performance is also striking. If you divided the Indian team into two parts: under-30 and over-33, the under-30 players basically won us the game (Karthik being the exception) while the over-33 flopped . Hopefully the seniors will get their act together in the next test and the Australia series; otherwise the selectors are going to have some tough decisions to make by the end of the year.

Obviously the Sri Lankans have their own problems begining with their woeful new-ball attack. Vaas looked quite good with the old ball but I believe in the two tests the seamers have taken just one wicket with their opening spell: which was a gift by Sehwag. The Lankan lower order scored even fewer runs than the Indian one and Vandort and Sanga look pretty shaky at the top of the order.

All in all the series is well-poised and let's hope we get a thrilling climax to a great series.

Yes, yes my Sikh brother - get the ten-fer in the match!

Anyway i am stoked with that win. Caught the entire 10 wickets today from the luxury of my work. Loved the bowling display from Ishant in particular. Kumble was quite good with captaincy, so full credit to him to get the right changes.
