Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Great win for Sri Lanka. This is why I love test cricket. Victory comes at such a good time for Sri Lanka. Will give them proper confidence to build up.

Don't agree with Kohli's five bowler theory at all, especially if your going to have Saha and Rohit in your top 6.He needs to do the basics first, like actually winning a test match, before fiddling around with stuff like that.

I think it smacks of doing something right in theory without actually considering the players you have. India have good middle order players like Pujara who could add so much more value to the side than yet more off spin. Harbhajan out Pujara in for my quid

The thing with playing 5 bowlers is that one of them is going to end up under-utilised, so you're basically covering your bases to see which one might do well.

I legitimately think they'd be better off playing Binny than Harbhajan on the off chance that the pitch/conditions suit his type of bowling.

Fair point but to me that's just not playing to India's strengths, which should be the middle order.

It's also why you'd pick an extra batsman - increasing the chances of one of them scoring a ton knowing that most of them won't.

On another note, I'm curious whether this test will influence BCCI at all on their DRS stance. It's pretty clear that India would've won probably by an innings if Chandimal was given out there..

Amazing how a non-innings turned into one of the ATG ones.. This one innings could define his career pretty much.. all cos BCCI was kind to him.

this was one awesome test match.

All the last 4 test matches in SL have been crackers

And I actually quite like the strategy of India going with 5 bowlers. It does make sense for a team who have really good batsmen (which India have imo). Just allow your bowlers to go all out in short spells and stay fresh during the match. Also as ***** keeps saying that over the course of a long series 5 bowlers is a good strategy to ensure your bowlers stay reasonably fresher.

i think someone put it best last summer when i asked why he wasn't at least trying to score more than 20 runs per 100 balls (that was actually one of his knocks). apparently his shot options were all too high risk so he put them away.

so he can't score runs because he'll get out and then he'll get out anyway.
Yeah that was me, he goes pretty well in the one dayers playing his shots and actually using some of his talent but he just can't construct a proper test innings at the moment, either gets bogged down or throws it away needlessly

That's only the case when India actually bowls a team out for a mid to low score. And if that happens that's actually what India desperately need, 20 wickets is a must. It is debatable as to which bowlers you pick, but the fact that you need 5 to share the workload is non-negotiable as far as I'm concerned, unless you are playing in India in which case I'm okay with 4 bowlers.

Virat Kohli (c)
Bull****. If the Indian players are happy to take the BCCI's money and play under the BCCI's playing conditions then they are culpable.

If they don't like the BCCI's stance on DRS they should refuse to play.
hahahahahahhahahahahahahha

If this was Dhoni I'm fairly certain he would have mentioned the umpiring howlers costing India in the 2nd innings and not have mentioned any mindset issues while batting. Good on Kohli for that.

Just can't go out there and field a team of five bowlers with a preconceived notion. There are a lot of factors involved if you actually field five frontline bowlers (well Ashwin is capable of batting but let's be honest that people can't expect him to make runs every time). You got to look at your available batsmen to make up the rest of the team who will come out before those five bowlers. One of them will have to be a keeper too. I don't think the current Indian side can afford this. Most of the batsmen if not all are trying to get into the groove of longer version. It's added pressure. If this was sehwag-dravid-sachin era then I would have backed up the five bowler decision thing. Atm the current Indian team can not simply put this strategy in play. Also I think it's too harsh just to blame Kohli for all these decisions. He is new into the job and there are other people also in the management for eg the tracer bullet guy who can surely lay out an alternate plan or knock some sense into Kohli. There are team advisors. What are they doing? It's a big gamble thing that India is going forward with and you got to sometimes fold if you really want to play poker. Can't go all in every time. I almost started to advocate but was thinking about it and came to conclusion that it's not the right direction atm.
