There was a ball that Warne bowled Strauss with and Hawkeye projected it missing the off stump by a bit..
No, in the 5th Test there was a ball that Warne bowled to Trescothick that broke HawkEye. Warne was landing the ball on the edge of the cut strip and getting it to spin sharply back to the stumps and it rapped Tresco on the pads. When they tried to look at it on HawkEye, it didn't work because HawkEye wasn't calibrated for a ball to spin that much. Once they recalibrated HawkEye it was fine.

Nah, he's talking about something different. That happened too but it was just a matter of HawkEye not searching a big enough area beyond the straight line path which, as you said, was easily fixed.

Warnetostraussgate happened too, though. As part of the testing process HawkEye went through before being introduced as part of UDRS, the paths of several balls HawkEye had already recorded which had gone through to the keeper or hit the stumps were compared to HawkEye's predicted path of the same ball cut off not far after it bounced (as if it hit the pad). That way it could be tested against known outcomes.

HawkEye essentially got the ball Warne bowled to Strauss 'wrong' in the original testing process, predicting it to just miss the stumps even though it had hit them in reality. The developers of the technology had to prove they'd fixed that fault before HawkEye was adopted though, so whatever the problem was doesn't exist anymore and it would now correctly predict the path of that delivery if it was bowled again, apparently. There was an article about it in Inside Cricket (an Australian cricket mag) not that long ago, IIRC.

Hopefully some Sree doubters can shut up now yeah he's a **** but he has the abilty to bowls balls which can even trouble great batsman not a world beater but a mighty effective bowler.
Don't count on me shutting up.

Erm WTF?

Prior to this series they've won 1 out of 5 series (and that against the West Indies) - how does that make them the best side in the world? 8-)
I think from his posts, he would more than likely put even Bangladesh there.. Anyone but India, I guess..

It's pretty random how on the whole the cricketing world underrates South Africa (and South Africans), but on this forum they are so significantly overrated. It's weird.

It's like some on CW don't think winning test series are relevant to being the best. You just have to win in Australia and that's it.
More like, if you are not India, you should be #1... :p

i.e. people don't work with the facts.

This is completely analagous to the arguments you and Marcus and others are making against HB regarding Kallis vs. Ponting.

You and others would say that the idea of a batsman is to score the most runs for their team, not to look good or have more skill etc.

Just the same, the idea of a team playing cricket is to win, not to have a good team on paper and look like a dominating team.

Yeah India's bowling lineup looks like **** compared to South Africa's. Yeah they were carrying Raina who is clearly not test class right now. But **** it, they win matches and series. South Africa underachieve.

Fact is, 2009 and 2010 have been **** for South Africa.
lol.. I guess this is off topic for the thread but I am not saying Ponting > Kallis because he "looks" better. I seriously think he is a better batsman... And I do think Kallis as a batsman is at times, overrated.. I mean I think he is one of the best all rounders of all time and a great batsman but God is he overrated in CW... Analogous to RSA's rating in CW, I would think.. :p

Things have certainly come a long way from those dark days, but TBF, we still looked like minnows for the first two days at Centurion. Donald-Pollock-Klusener-McMillan was a magnificent bowling lineup and far too good for us, however embarrassing it felt at the time. Better than SA's current bowling lineup.
Pretty sure Zulu Klusener didn't play the 96 tests?

Yeah won 4 and lost 5 in the last two years. Definitely something they have to improve if they want to be no.1. Such a huge game for both sides this one. I have a feeling India will struggle to get 20 wickets and it's up to the batsmen to put some serious scoreboard pressure or at least get the draw.

He played. I think I looked at the scorecard from that match before making the post.
He made his debut in the 96 India series. Took 8 wickets at Kolkata in second innings after being thrashed by Azhar in first innings.

I see Ankit that you finally downgraded Viv Richards from number 3 in your all time and put in Muralitharan and Imran Khan before him. Imran appears at number 3 of all time in your list. I think I would agree with your top 3 but admittedly I am a massive Imran fan-boy :)

That is what.. I was pretty sure he didn't play when we toured to RSA.. Then I remembered he was the one who hung around for a while with Cullinan to draw the game for RSA at Jo'burg... That is why I put the confused smiley there.. :) Don't recall why I didn't remember him playing that series...
