Prince edged it off the end of the bat and it went over second slip. Laxman reacted late, jumped up and latched on to it. Good catch.

1. The selectors have greater access to these players than any of us do. They actually watch them in action before making a judgment, while we merely go by records and speculate. As Prince EWS mentioned earlier, first-class success does not always translate into test success and some players are ready earlier than others. The selectors are responsible for making this call.
Of course. And I never said you should pick the most experienced player. But whoever you pick has to have some experience IMO. I posted a list of successes and failures of players who played before 20, and as you can see, there are a lot more failures than successes. It is especially sad because those are your best young talents, and for so few to bear fruition means there might need to be a change in attitude or process.

Please cut out your "test cap is not a cheap gift" attitude - all that matters is the future of Indian cricket.
Yes, obviously.

OH..and that was out I thought.

The bull**** umpiring continues. Seriously, our boys have done well to keep it to 300 with all this rubbish.
And watch every half chance given out for us. Would be just our luck too.

They don't need to have experience if they've only been called up to get some exposure.

That list of past failures and successes isn't as significant as it seems. Perhaps the selectors from the past may have forgotten about young prospects who failed, but the current crop don't need to do that. As long as you continue to consider one-time failures, giving them a shot early on isn't such a bad thing. Of course, it's better if you let them develop before asking them to win matches. That list doesn't mean too much though.
