And the athletes in turn make their living off the emotional, time and financial investment of the fans who deserve to hear answers to questions that they will undoubtedly share, so fair's fair imo.
I, as a fan, am not itching at the bit for a cliché rehearsed answer to a question designed to goad the cricketer into saying something controversial

Kohli is just a petulant man child, like most of these pampered sports starlets. Journalists have every right to ask any question connected to the match, series and sport, if he can't answer them, then drop the captaincy. What a bunch of moaning about nothing. You lost, get over it and come back better, and how about scoring a century or more in a match you can actually win away from Asia. No self accountability and humility what-so-ever.

We had to wait for a long time for those 2 teams to play each other...The last series was many days ago...20, maybe even 30...can't wait for Rohit to score 546123023546 runs in a T20 match against Lahiru Gamage

Has been a really good test series. Never really feels like winning/losing the toss gives you nearly no hope like the last time we toured india.

How does India structure its selections? Is the captain a selector or just have (a lot) of input to the selectors?

Media should ask questions and one can answer them without being an arrogant dick about it. You cannot be annoyed at the stupidity of the question, answer it at face value. If he had just said that this is the best XI according to me instead of being weird, it would have been fine. Answer the ****ing question.

Usually there is the team management which means captain vice captain and coach possibly. Given Rahane is dropped , it is mostly Kohli right now.

Interesting set up. It’s something they should look at imo. I recall clarke saying that the period he was selecting and captaining was very difficult

The wheels will really start falling off later this year when India haven't recorded a single test win. Fortunately, they can slap around Sri Lanka for a bit

"Horses for courses" is the policy that India and a lot of other test playing nations need to adopt.

Rohit Sharma and Dhawan are better suited for Asian conditions, but outside Asia, Rahane and KL Rahul should get the nod.

Bhuvi is an all-condition bowler, I don't see him out of the team in any kind of conditions, even if the conditions are not favorable at all, he can bowl tight lines and control the damage while contributing with the bat.

Ashwin looks a lot more evolved and wants to continue contributing with the bat, but does he and Pandya both fit in the team? Especially considering the fact that Saha is not that good with the bat. If conditions are not that favorable for spin and we need only one spinner, Kuldeep Yadav can do the job. A wrist spinner who is difficult to pick is a threat on any surface, especially when he can extract so much of turn.

Also, if Dinesh Karthik can do well behind the stumps, he definitely needs to be in the team. He is way better than Saha with the bat.

I am not sure rohit is better then rahane even on asian pitches. If you look at rohits stats his record at home exluding Sri lanka and west indies is very average. Rahane isnt great but he still played some good inning against SA and Australia. And even when the two played together in SL when SL had a more competitive team rahane performed as well as rohit despite playing out of position to accomodate rohit.

Agree with the horses for courses theory but the one caveat with that is that players get better with match practice and experience. If they're not playing for months or even >1 year they will get worse.

By the way, does no one else feel sorry for poor Umesh. Bowled his heart out all season while Ishant comes in and does well in one series and Bumrah gets to debut with no FC practice and suddenly he's at the back of the queue. What the hell...
