SA definitely playing more aggressive than what we are used to... Markram and Elgar hooking at balls with 2 men back not normal for them. I am happy for them to be hooking, but not with 2 men on the boundary like that.
Think Bumrah surprised Elgar with that one, they've not peppered him with short balls, was good from Bumrah but poor fielding from Vijay out there.

Markram is going to be so good for SA over the next few years.... and has such a wonderful temperament.

Even though it is still slow turn I think the new groundsman deserves some de-merit points. No way should a day one pitch be turning in SA vs India.

Get the feeling that Ashwin is just experimenting with his pace to try and see what is the ideal pace for this track. The slower he bowls the more grip he seems to get but it is therefore very slow off the pitch, his quicker deliveries, while giving the batsmen les time to adjust, are not going quite as much. Going to be a long spell here for Ravi.

From what I understand he has struggled.... been using lots of water but the heat and sun has caused the grass to burn. First test wicket he has created so will give him a little slack.

Very true. Although by day four and five Maharaj could be a real handful.

And right now I`m glad we played Ngidi on this pitch... looks like we will need the extra bowler over the extra batsmen.

It's certainly not a bad pitch by any means, just not exactly what anyone would have expected.
